Broadcast: ITV job cuts in Manchester and Leeds
http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/2008/05/itv_job_cuts_in_manchester_and_leeds.html

According to the union Bectu, most of the cuts will target technical
and post production staff, including many that work on the long-
running dramas Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

Same old story.

TV will not confirm the level of the cuts until it has finished
consulting with staff, but said in a statement: "ITV has this week
briefed employees on the second phase of proposals affecting staff
working within the Northern Resources group in Manchester and Leeds –
following a first stage that has already resulted in a management
restructure.

Consultation = "You're sacked"

Management Restructure = More of them.

Cynical ? You bet I am.

Re: Broadcast: ITV job cuts in Manchester and Leeds
In conjunction with the above...

Ofcom is set to take action against ITV for failing to hit its out-of-
London production value quota for two years running.

ITV1 is targeted to produce 50% of its network production from outside
London, both by volume and by value, the highest proportion of any
broadcaster.
It has exceeded the quota in volume terms, but only 46% of its
production by value was from the nations and regions in 2006, and this
fell to 44% last year.

"ITV1 is targeted to produce 50% of its network production from
outside London"
Not much chance of that happening with even less staff !!

Indeed. And once they run out of freelancers to do the technical jobs
(the freelancers' own previous jobs in many cases probably) I wonder
where they think they'll find people with the training and experience
to do them? You can't do everything from an office with a computer.

I wonder if OFCOM will be any more successful over this than they were
over the £5.67 million fine? It is reported that they will probably
only have to pay about £50,000

Hmm, has Ofcom or another news organisation reported this, call me
cynical but the Times slagging off ITV is a bit like ITV slagging of
BSkyB - think about it, hardly impartial voices within the
industry....

I know I may be one of them in Manchester

> Management Restructure = More of them.

On this occasion they have got rid of managers, andcreated fewer new jobs
than the number made redundant so in some cases 3 made redundant and can
apply for 2 new jobs or 3 made redundant and can apply for 1 job but will
have to cover both sites Manchester & Leeds

Hey join the queue

The winning applicants will have been picked already. All they have to do is
set the interview questions to make sure they can appoint the ones they
already know they want.

It's a long queue.

I have not seen anything denying it which I would have expected if it
was a complete fabrication by Murdoch/Sky.

I always thing it's "funny" that they never get rid of THE most
expensive people, ie those at the top.

Who do you think initiates those changes?

When companies like BT started using Indian call centres they justified
it by explaining how many highly educated people there are in India so
someone asked why they do not outsource the Board of Directors to India
also.

With the BBC move to Manchester, I bet the DG and Chairman will not be
moving there - they might have an office there but I can't see them
moving somehow.

They wouldn't even make the move from BH London to White City 17 years ago,
when that was supposed to be the new "head office" ;-(
