BBC1 Lunchtime news & weather 4/2/08 - Lip Sync
Watching the BBC1 lunchtime news today via terrestrial digital (IDTV), the
vision was slightly ahead of the sound and didn't correct itself when I
changed channel and back again which usually cures that sort of problem.
Switched over to analogue (BBC1 NE/Cumbria) and it was still out of sync as
it was on BBC Scotland analogue that we can also get here (from Sandale).
Did anyone else notice it and why might vision/sound be out of sync on
analogue?
Regards,
RodP

Yes indeed. I was watching it at my Mother's on her new IDTV and
thought that there might have been a problem with the set itself. Like
you I thought that changing channels and back would clear the problem
but it didn't and as soon a the regional opt happened [1] (in this case
to BBC Midlands via Sutton Coldfield) the problem ended.

Presumably there was a processing problem at TVC? In any case, I would
have expected it to have been noticed and either corrected or an apology
put out.

Come to think of it, the last time I saw a "Do not adjust your set" type
caption on the screen I think was in the era of ITV regional frontcaps
and Saturday night featuring Mike Yarwood and the Two Ronnies.......

Don't they do those on-screen apologies any more?

[1] ie a minute or two before the beginning of the regional news
itself.

I doubt whether anybody in the playout control room noticed, they were too
busy deciding which particular order to put the next barrage of trailers in,
and writing out an irritating and pointless script to shout over some end
credits. Or perhaps no one could remember how to spell apologise.
