Belle Vue Vs Peterborough....Elite League 'A' 3rd April 2006
3rd April 2006
On a bitterly cold night in Manchester The Aces took on many people's tips
for the title Peterborough Panthers. The Aces were back at full strength
with the return of 'Daddy Cool' Joe Screen. With the score standing at 46-44
from the first fixture at the East Of England Showground a bonus point was
up for grabs. Belle Vue won the toss and captain Jason Crump chose gates
1&3. Peterborough were hungry for a win after a successful day in Ryan
Sullivan's testimonial the day before. The match was close with Peterborough
grabbing an early lead as Phil Morris lost control on the 3rd bend in heat 2
taking out Tom P. Madsen. This gave The Panthers a 2 point lead as Madsen
rode a brave race to split the Panthers reserve pairing of Richard Hall and
Ulrich Ostergaard. Simon Stead made a mess of the first corner in heat 3
which left James Wright to fend off the challenge of Jesper B Jensen to
again split the Panthers. Heat 4 was a bit of catastrophe with both Madsen
and Ostergaard being excluded under the 2 minute rule. Crump roared from the
start and with Phil Morris picking up third this pegged the Panthers lead
back to 2 points . Simon Stead made a great start in heat 5 to head home
Hans Andersen. James Wright tucked in for third place which brought the
scores level. The next 3 heats were all shared and it looked like Belle Vue
were struggling to shake off the Panthers. In heat 9 James Wright produced
the ride of the night to pip Ostergaard on the line to take third place and
put The Aces 2 points ahead. In heat 11 Belle Vue stretched their lead to 4
points with a 4-2 from Crump and Morris. This proved to be Tomasz Bajerski's
last ride as he failed to score from his 3 rides. Belle Vue gained a much
needed 5-1 in heat 12 with Simon Stead producing a fine display of team
riding to defend the moves of Jensen, this allowed Madsen to roar home for
his first win in Aces colours. Heat 14 must go down as a bizarre one with
Peterborough reserve Ostergaard being excluded under the 2 minute rule. This
enabled The Panthers to bring in Hans Andersen as a Tactical Substitute from
15 metres back. Andersen made considerable ground in the first lap only to
bring down Phil Morris on the second lap which resulted in his exclusion.
This was a shame as Belle Vue were on a 5-1 at the time. Heat 15 once again
produced another exclusion under the 2 minute rule for Peterborough. Niels
Kristian Iversens bike gave up the ghost on the start line and he was left
with no time for repairs. Ostergaard took his place but the result was
already beyond rescue for the Panthers as The Aces took a 5-1 to finish the
match triumphant winning 50-40.
