For the second straight week, the Flames squandered a two goal lead as
the Bracknell Bees erased the 3rd period deficit and scored 3
unanswered strikes, including the overtime winner, to take a 6-5 win
in Berkshire. The Flames earn a single league point for the
regulation draw. Jozef Kohut opened the scoring for the Flames before
the game was a minute old, but the Bees answered back with a trio of
goals by Matt Foord, Shaun Thompson, and Kurt Reynolds in a span of 4
minutes and 5 seconds to take a 3-1 lead before the halfway point of
the opening period. Paul Dixon pulled the game back for the Flames at
8:02 while on the powerplay and the Surrey side went to the break down
by a goal. Things looked good for the Flames in the middle session
with 3 goals to take a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes. Dixon was on target
again on the powerplay at 27:09 and Stuart Potts made it 4-3 just over
a minute later. At 37:38 Kohut scored his second and the Flames held
the 2 goal cushion at the break. A netminding switch for the Bees
sparked the club, and they roared back with a pair of goals early in
the session when Michal Kanka struck at 44:16 and Thomspon scored at
46:24 to knot the score at 5 each sending the game to extra time.
Just over a minute into the extended period, Kanka scored his second
of the night to secure the Bees win.
