Guildford Flames 3-5 Sheffield Scimitars
Sunday 7th October 2007
English Premier League
Guildford Spectrum, Parkway, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 1UP, England
On Sunday night the Flames returned home to face the Sheffield
Scimitars and jumped out to an early 3-1 lead before the Yorkshire
club turned the tables, eventually stealing the points out of Surrey
with a 5-3 win. On the Powerplay, Jozef Kohut struck at the 6 minute
mark for a 1-0 home lead, but the Scimitars replied just over a minute
later on a powerplay of their own to knot the score at 1 each. Milos
Melicherik gave the Flames a 2-1 lead at 10:11 and Rob Lamey converted
another powerplay just before the first period timed out to send the
Flames to the break with a 2 goal lead. A major penalty and game
ejection to Kohut at 21:57, put the Flames at a 3 on 5 disadvantage
that the Scimitars did not waste thanks to a Peter Slamiar goal at
23:33, bringing the travellers to within a goal. At 32:24 the
Scimitars tied the match with a Steve Duncombe strike and they took
their first lead of the night at 36:36 with a Patrik Moberg mark.
Early in the 3rd, while killing a penalty, the Scimitars Stephen
Wallace was successful on a breakaway opportunity to extend the
visitors lead to 5-3 and, despite outshooting Sheffield in the final
session, the Flames could find no further offence to pull the game
back.
