Plant Named Captain
For the first time in 7 seasons the Guildford Flames Ice Hockey club
have a new captain. Rick Plant takes over the skipper role from Paul
Dixon, who is no longer able to carry the post since taking the Head
Coaching job. Plant is the Flames all time leading British point
scorer, and 6th overall, with 465 games played, 138 goals and 379
points. He first joined the club in 1997-1998 when he helped the
Spectrum side to the Southern conference, British National League and
Playoff titles. He was a part of the treble winning club of
2000-2001, and has since tacked on the English Premier League title of
05-06 and last season's Premier Cup.

The club had been rotating captains on a trial basis to start the
season, but last week made the final decision on the designated
leadership trio, naming Milos Melicherik and Neil Liddiard as
Assistant Captains. The pair made key contributions to the 03-04
playoff title, the 05-06 EPL championship and the Premier Cup last
spring.

Melicherik has led the club in scoring on 4 consecutive occasions
since his arrival in time for the 2003-2004 season. In just over 250
games, the veteran Slovakian playmaker has amassed 353 points and
currently sits 7th on the Flames all time scoring charts.

Liddiard joined the Flames in the summer of 2003 from Basingstoke
Bison where he won the award for the country's top British defenceman
twice during his three year stay. He has represented Great Britain at
all levels, boasting more than 20 senior caps with the national side,
including his most recent appearance at the 2005 world championships.
