Guildford Flames 9-3 Wightlink Raiders
Sunday 23rd September 2007
English Premier League
Guildford Spectrum, The Parkway, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 1UP, England
A day after executing one of the most unlikely late game comeback's in
the history of the club, the Flames returned home to Spectrum ice to
take on the Wightlink Raiders, and handed the visitors a 9-3 defeat.
Neil Liddiard opened the scoring for the Flames at 7:48, but the
Raiders replied less than a minute later with a Les Millie strike. 23
seconds after that the Island based club took the lead when Jason
Coles was on the mark. Jozef Kohut answered on the powerplay at 10:20
to even the score and Lukas Smital put the Flames up 3-2 at 16:39. In
the middle session the Flames widened the gap with another Kohut and
Smital goal at 22:04 and 27:08 respectively. At 29:29 the Raiders
brought one back when Coles netted his second of the night, but a pair
of late period goals by the Flames at 37:29 through Smital and 39:05
through Ollie Bronnimann gave the home side a commanding 7-3 lead with
two periods in the books. At 44:06 Kohut matched Smital's hattrick
and just over two minutes later Rob Lamey completed the scoring to
give the Flames their 3rd win in 3 league starts.
