For the first time during the 2006-2007 season the Guildford Flames
Ice Hockey club took to the ice as the league leaders and, with just
the narrowest of margins between them and the second place Sheffield
Scimitars, the Flames delivered and important win by toppling the
Tigers 4-1 in Telford, to remain at the top of the EPL table.  The
Surrey side netted a single unanswered strike in each of the first two
sessions to hold a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to play.  Ollie Bronnimann
opened their account at 5:34 and Milos Melicherik extended the lead to
a pair at 24:11 while the Flames enjoyed a powerplay.  In the final
session, the Spectrum outfit added two more thanks to a shorthanded
strike by Vaclav Zavoral in the 43rd minute and another Bronnimann
goal at 50:17 to take a 4-0 lead.  As time wound down, Daniel Mackriel
converted on a Tigers powerplay to spoil Tom Annetts bid for a shutout
when he beat the Flames netminder with just under 60 seconds to play,
but it made no difference to the ultimate outcome, with the Flames
preserving the 4-1 win and maintaining a 2 point league table lead.
