The Flames wasted little time in returning to action following
Christmas, jumping back on Spectrum ice for a Boxing Day clash with
the Solihull Barons, who did not fare so well in the holiday event,
departing Guildford with an 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Surrey
club.  The Flames opened their account before the game was 2 minutes
old, when Rick Plant converted a Robert Young pass for a 1-0 lead.  At
6:00 Neil Liddard extended the lead to a pair.  The Barons hit back at
6:24 when Robert Sobala found the goal.  The visitors levelled the
score at 2 each just a few minutes later through Sarunas Kulesius.  At
15:18 Marian Smerciak put the Flames out in front once again 3-2, and
Rick Plant made it 4-2 for the Flames at 19:52, sending the clubs to
the break with the Flames holding a 2 goal edge.  At 26:23 Daniel
Scott pulled the Barons back to within a goal, but a brace by Vaclav
Zavoral at 35:27 and 39:07 gave the Flames a commanding 6-3 lead after
40 minutes.  The Flames added a pair of 3rd period strikes to complete
the 8-3 win with Paul Dixon netting at 46:29 and Rob Lamey rounding
out the offence at 58:36.
