A couple for Sunday.
A couple of interesting horses to keep an eye on for Sunday.
At The Curragh Dermot Weld saddles the once run CENTRAL STATION who is
highly regarded & entered at Epsom, although by Indian Ridge, you'd expect
no more than a mile really, anyway, he's worth watching for tomorrow at
least.
J Gosden runs BRONZE CANNON at Newmarket, he took a very hot race last time
beating no less than Dr Freemantle by a neck.
I've not checked the markets yet so obviously will only getting involved if
value permits.
Cheers ears
Aid.

CURRAGH

In the 2.00 CIHANGAR interests me the most but I`ve managed to lose my notes
so I`ll have to look again on Sunday :-(

3.35 1,000gns

NHAHOOD would be the one after his HQ screw up by Hughes imo however SAOIRSE
ABU(prn SAIR-SABU) also did not get a clear run but managed to get into 3rd
beaten a length and with a clear run today looks dangerous.

Looking for a bit of EW value HALFWAY TO HEAVEN lost out to ZARAKAVA lto and
also beaten in a photo by CARRIBEAN SUNSET,who had his ground which he may
not have tomorrow, but neither should be underestimated but imo the value EW
is HALFWAY TO HEAVEN flws

all the other races on the card look interesting also imho

Re: A couple for Sunday.
My idea of the Guineas winner is CARRIBEAN SUNSET. She looks best bred for
this mile & she's a big price at 10's on BF, the trials confirm her to be
the major player, holding Saoirse Abu who I see as main danger to the
selection (3rd to Natagora) & Halfway to Heaven & then the well regarded
Katiyra.
She ticks every box for this & I can't wait the race :-).
Cheers ears
Aid.

I reckon that Weld will take this race and have already backed Carribean
Sunset at around 15's. I agree she is just about the best bred in the
race and her form looks solid. I must admit I am a bit worried that Pat
Smullen has chosen Mad About You who is as equally well bred for this
mile trip being by Indian Ridge out of a Danehill mare. She was unsuited
by the soft ground in the Boussac but still ran respectively and met a
little trouble in running in the Moyglare. Does not have to find much
improvement on that form to take this and the mile on fast ground should
be ideal.

The only bit of value that jumps out at me, is for STRATEGIC APPROACH
in the 4.40 Newmarket, who is clearly a decent animal. The narrow
defeat last time was in a race run at no pace at all AND on softish
ground. At the current 3/1-ish, it is well worth taking IMHO.

Tokens for David, off in 9 days *GRIN*

Re: A couple for Sunday.
Carrabean Sunset 3rd @ 7's, can't say Ryan Moore covered himself in glory.
I know it's easy from comfort of the couch & it's not sour grapes, but he
put the horse everywhere, but in the right place, cost at least one position
if not two IMO, there, moan over.
Cheers ears
Aid.

Re: A couple for Sunday.
Was not his best for sure but I think the ground may have been too fast
for him the way he was running. From memory I think Danehill Dancer's
progeny have around a 7% better strike-rate the last 4 years on soft
ground compared to firm.

Re: A couple for Sunday.
Central Station ran a cracker for third in only his second ever run, in a
truly run race & looks sure to score soon, certainly one to watch.
Bronze Cannon won as he liked, the rise in weight didn't stop him here, I
got a shade of odds on which I was happy with, before he was punted to long
odds on. He'll be going up in weight/grade & still may be ahead at that.
Quick question for Dave: Does Myboycharlie always run with that awkward head
carriage to the side, wasn't sure if it was the ground yesterday, which I
know he didn't like or if it's a quirk of his, Any Idea?
Cheers ears
Aid.

Sorry Aid but if you have another look he doesn`t perform well enough on the
current going. He had beaten HALFWAY TO PARADISE a Head, however it was HTPs
1st run and on the right going for CS,this was the reason I put up the
winner instead of CS.I put great emphasis on the going when looking for a
possible Sel,it is the first element of the puzzle I look at.Particularly
when you have 2 possibles, that can be the difference most times.

Re: A couple for Sunday.
Well the sire/damsire have no preference one way or the other in terms
of ground conditions and connections seemed to think he would be better
on better ground but I have my doubts. I think it's interesting though
that his best form came on soft/heavy and he has now been beaten twice
on faster conditions. I can't see from his race record that he has ever
displayed that kind of quirk before so I can only assume it was the firm
going m8.

Re: A couple for Sunday.
Yeah, yer probably right David, Halfway was a worthy winner on the day &
well done with your selection. I just didn't like the way Ryan Moore placed
the horse straight out of the traps, he should have been closer to the pace
& then messed about going inside when should have gone outside then vice
versa & had expended too much energy zigzagging all day when she finally got
a run, with the regular pilot up top she'd have been closer, but the irony
isn't lost on the fact that as Dave Mc has pointed out, the reg jock was on
the horse in front of her ;-)
That's racing I suppose & it's on to the next one.
All that said Ryan Moore is probably my favourite jockey & owes me nothing.
Cheers ears
Aid.

Yeah, well it was certainly a disappointing run from Myboycharlie then Dave,
I've had big hopes for this one in the summer, I'll be interested to see any
comments from Stack & how he comes out of that race, will have to
re-appraise him on that showing me thinks.
Cheers

I thought it was a good seasonal debut from Mad About You and that
looks one to follow, perhaps for a race like the Coronation at Royal
Ascot.

It doesn't seem to have been an issue in his last few outings, however
with him being fairly new to the track conditions, something could
have upset him earlier on before the race to affect his perfomance,
horses are tempramental animals.
