Lockinge
Looks like a cracking renewal for the older horses tomorrow. I've got it
down to two against the field at this stage. I like the tough CREACHADOIR,
boys in blue showing signs of getting the season kick started, this ex
Bolger horse improved a heck of lot last year, considering he was originally
a pacemaker for Teofilo, he is a tough nut on his day, beaten only a length
by Cockney Rebel in the Irish 2000g last year, probably needed his latest
spin (disappointed) to put him right for this.
Australian import HARADASUN, a triple G1 winner, we know what Aussie imports
are capable of on our shores, stable second string is no slouch & so have
the benchmark required against this lot, enough said really.
I'll probably go Dutch with those two.
Any thoughts??
Cheers ears

Cesare was impressive last time for sure but that was a listed race and
he had tried and failed at this level before, can't see him finding the
improvement required at 7 to take this.

ASTRONOMER ROYAL looks the O'Brien 2nd string on bookings but the jock
has a good record for the trainer at Newbury and it's worth remembering
this colt won the French 2000 last season and was 3rd in the St James
Palace which is proven GP1 form which a lot of his rivals lack today.
The 22/1 looks massive to me based on those runs and looks great
each-way value.

Fillies have done well in this lately and with Mick Channon returning to
form lately, his GP1 winning filly MAJESTIC ROI could be worth an e/w
bet at the 20/1 mark having scored well in the Sun Chariot last backend
from Nannina.

The one that really worries me is Chapple-Hyam's Tariq who could step up
on what he has shown so far but looked progressive last season and would
not have to improve too much in what looks a fairly weak Lockinge to me.

The rest of Newbury also looks fairly decent....

I have taken a look at the London Clubs Cup handicap at 3:20 but I think
I have a value play in BETTER HAND at an early 33/1. He fits a lot of
the relevant stats and ran a fair ran when 3rd to Newmarket Stakes
winner and Derby fancy Kandahar Run last time. That was a decent effort
and conditions look to be in favour for this prominant runner.

The danger could be RAMONA CHASE who is also worth a bet at 9/1. Quite a
headstrong colt, he was gelded last season but has still struggled a bit
to settle in his races. However, there is plenty of pace likely in the
field and that should help. His 2nd to the useful Dr Faustus last time
is some of the best form in the field.

Ramona Chase and Master Spy were two others that caught my eye but their
stamina has to be taken on trust.

In the 1:35 keep an eye on Dunlop's NISAAL. His maiden run is working
out very well indeed and he is arguably the best bred in the field to be
effective at this trip. Factor in the fact that his runners tend to
improve markedly for a run and he look a fair value bet at 6/1.

Headgear and a drop to 6f helped SIGNOR PELTRO score last July and the
application of a visor and drop back to 6f can see him win again in the
sprint at 3:55 especially with Henry Candy hitting form at the moment.
9/2 is a fair enough price.

I love Cheveley Park runners and the 4:30 handicap can go to HIP. By
Pivotal out of a Machiavellian mare, se is bred to be fully effective at
this trip and potentially top class. Won a 16-runner maiden so the field
size is not a problem and he could be useful.

The 5:00 race sees another well bred gelding SECRET DANCER by Sadler's
Wells out of a Darshaan mare. Providing the ground is not too firm he
can go well and an early 12/1 looks big with Spencer booked.

===================================

Over at Newmarket another well-bred Cheveley Park runner is FONDLED at
4/1 in the 2:25 race. McEvoy is booked for this Selkirk filly and she
can go well if Fanshawe has her fit enough.

Finally the 3:35 at Newmarket can go to Cumani's SANBUCH who progressed
throughout last season and ended up with a decent 2nd in the November
handicap. Should be just as effective over this trip today and 7/1 looks
a decent price.
