French Guineas
Bit of a disaster yesterday but luckily I was at a barbecue most of the
day so damage was limited. Today, apart from the big Derby trial in
Ireland which I already covered I've taken a look at the racing in
France from a breeding point of view.
Starting with the boys in the French 2000, one that stands above the
rest in terms of being a potential GP1 miler is THEWAYYOUARE who also
had decent form last season. By Kingmambo out of a Sadler's Wells mare
he is certainly bred for the job and also had top form last season so he
would be by no.1 pick for this.
Georgebernardshaw is also bred to be a miler by Danehill Dancer out of a
thatching mare and impressed last time. Connections are to be respected
given there decent, recent record in this and he looks the main danger.
Of the others the 2 Pivotal colts are interesting. Il Warrd and Falco.
Il Warrd has been bought by Godolphin, lets hope they don't put the kiss
of death on him as they did with Campanologist yesterday ;-)
I Warrd has to improve but being by Pivotal out of a Machiavellian mare
there is every chance he will prove most effective at this trip although
you have to wonder if he has been supplemented as a pace-maker for Rio
De La Plata although connections insist he is running in his own right.
We shall see.
Falco scored well last time but like Il Warrd has to improve markedly to
take this.
============================================================
ZARKAVA is clearly the one to beat here on form but surprisingly she is
not the best in the field bred to be a Group performer over this trip.
The two that stand out on breeding are PSALM and Halfway To Heaven.
Psalm by Sadler's Wells out of an Irish River mare is exceptionally well
bred. Her saddle slipped last time but she is the stable no.1 choice and
so has to go down as a danger although she has to improve markedly but
may be worth an each-way/place bet.
Stablemate halfway to Heaven by Pivotal out of an Indian Ridge mare and
ran ok in a trial last time but again needs to improve and looks the 2nd
best on jockey bookings.
2 others that are not quite as well bred as those two are Azabara and
Destare. Azabara is probably open to more improvement but both her and
Psalm have a lot to do to overhaul the fav.

Re: French Guineas
Yeah, not a good day for me either all round.
Over in France, can't help thinking that the 2yo old form of RIO
DE LA PLATA shouldn't be overlooked & it's too easy to treat the boys in
blue like they have leprosy at the minute, the 6.60, on Betfair is a bit of
value & I had to row in.
Cheers ears
Aid.

Re: French Guineas
Rio De La Plata ran a cracker to be 2nd or 3rd (photo) considering his draw
& the traffic he met, he was never going to catch the winner, even more
impressive was River Proud who had a bad draw & was messed about by the
handlers at the start, finished like a train, one for the notebook in the
summer.
Cheers ears
