OTT Vista
Just got a new machine, and this Vista is taking some getting used to. Does
anyone know how to delete old messages? It used to be easy to 'mark all
read' or to select 'new messages only' . But Even going via Options,
Maintenance Delete doesn't seem to work on Vista. Can't even fathom which
address is assigned to a newsgroup message, and how to change it. Seems like
a different beast altogether.
Talking of Beasts, anyone heard from Firebeast lately?
Cheers Guys

Not sure what you mean - I'm not an expert and maybe you want to do
something more sophisticated than I do , but I don't find any problems . How
do you access newsgroups ?

A fix as been released by M$ to resolve the problem of undeletable mails:

"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

It works for all folders.

The email posting address is changed via WM>Tools>Accounts>select news
account>properties>general tab.

I'm talking about old newsgroup message headers and bodies, I cannot find a
way to get rid of them. They are not MSMail messages, just newsgroups. I
have thousands of the damned things refusing to go away. How come every time
they upgrade something they make it harder to use?

I do that by using a message rule, tools>message rules>news, set it to
delete from server after ## days, I have two rules actually that I apply
manually to a folder or the whole server, one is set for 5 days and the
other 20 days, I do not have them ticked in the list and apply them manually
as I feel fit.

Do yourself a favour and re-install XP.
And junk Outlook as your newsreader. Download the much better (and much
more secure) Thunderbird...and while there, dump IE and get Firefox.

Yeah I would agree with that, forget Outlook etc although I would
recommend Seamonkey, much better software developers.

It's okay everyone, I've discovered that there is another mail package
besides Windows Live Mail and it does behave more like Outlook Express did -
so I'm sorted. However Excel 2007 is awful to get used to so my 2003 version
has been loaded, but problems running macro's at first.
Thanks for the helpful hints guys

So why did you download that WLM abortion?

WM is the inbuilt mail program within Vista, it is exactly the same animal
as OE, except for the storage system and the contacts/calendar features.
