Betfair's recent 'upgrades'
Have others here found their site to be working SO much more slowly
since the changes?
When selecting a race now, it can take upwards of five seconds for the
race to come up.
Not impressed TBH.

I love it, well at least the option to keep a bet in-running at a price
I want or the option to take SP. What browser are you using ? I can
recommend SeaMonkey - doesn't seem to give me any problems in terms of
speed.

I find the speed issue an annoyance too. Presumably it'll improve in
the fullness of time.

Why would anyone want to take SP?

Firefox.

LOL. What's that when it's at home? It sounds like one of your tips.

I've justed tested a few timings and to me it looks like IE might be the
problem. Both Firefox and Seamonkey seem to be a couple of secs quicker.
You can also try http://www2.betfair.com as it's usually quicker. but
even that looks slow in IE.

I have found from research that usually the last price matched is often
the biggest, unless you have a crystal ball of course. So what I usually
do is split my bet on my main selection, have goes on a 'keep' bet at
the price I want and the other half goes at Betfair SP so I am sure that
I get on - seems to work well and the prices are fair enough I think
from what I have seen on limited evidence.
Strange that Firefox was slow for you - seemed ok for me, unless it's
maybe some of your cache settings.
Seamonkey - yeah sounds weird but I've found it is the best browser out
there and it also has a decent email/news client.

Rather like the changes Betfair used to make, up till a couple of years ago,
that would crash the site for days afterwards, often at major race meetings,
one is left wondering whether they tested this at all.
Part of the reason seems to be that so much more data is downloaded, often
pointlessly, and part is some very slow javascript, but there must be more to it.
Ironically, it is hard to see how these changes, which make using the site
more complicated, will attract the betting shop punters that Betfair is targeting.
I'd have thought a simpler interface would be needed, not more bells and
whistles.
SP is a red herring. It would have been possible to introduce SP betting without
the other changes to the interface.
And wouldn't the facility to back unnamed favourites have been more likely to
attract punters away from the bookmakers?
Since Betfair has introduced the option to use the old interface, we can deduce
the new one is not necessary, though doubtless the choice will be removed again
once a couple of seconds have been shaved off latencies.
