Middlesex Seminar for Rules Officials
Middlesex County Golf Union will be holding its fourth biennial Seminar for
potential Rules Officials on Wednesday, 22nd October and the associated
Examination on Wednesday, 3rd December 2008.
Both events will take place at Finchley Golf Club (location can be got from
their website http://www.finchleygolfclub.com/ ).

While primarily intended for those affiliated to Middlesex clubs, we can
accommodate others from clubs outside the County should any vacancies remain
after the end of September.

The Seminar is aimed at those seeking accreditation as Rules Officials.
It focuses on how to be an effective Rules Official at stroke play
tournaments, on being a walking Referee with a match and also how to deal
with the day to day Rules questions an accredited Rules Official will be
fielding from club members.
There are also practical sessions on those aspects of the Rules a Rules
Official is most likely to encounter.
The five instructors at this whole day Seminar are all qualified EGU Rules
Officials with experience in officiating at a club, county and national
level.

We expect those attending to have keen interest in, and a little above
average knowledge of, the Rules of Golf.

Following the Seminar there is a six week period during which candidates can
"swot" for the examination.

Those that pass the written examination will gain accreditation as MCGU Club
Rules Officials and receive a lapel badge to recognise the fact. Those who
do particularly well will be selected as MCGU County Rules Officials.

The Middlesex County Golf Union was the first county to initiate a facility
for club members to gain accreditation as Rules Officials and as far as I am
aware, is still the only English county doing so. However, most counties
will be well aware of what the MCGU are doing and are accepting the MCGU
qualification.

Should you be interested in attending both the Seminar and Examination (to
attend one without the other is not an option), please email me.
