When I try to pitch I regularly play a punch shot instead of  crisply 
getting the ball up into the air.  Generally I get a reasonable result but 
it is not what I want nor intended.
My pitching wedge or 9 iron takes a big divot and just stops at the end of 
it with the divot lifted up against the club, there is no follow through.
Does anyone know a cure for this?
