It has been a bit quiet. So I'll let you know that recently, after 12
years or so playing the game, I finally got an eagle. Driver, 3-wood
threaded past bunker to back fringe of green on 450yd par 5 (playing
from yellows as whites closed for winter, it's normally about 530) then
sunk a 15ft putt.

Since the layout of my home source means that I can't normally reach any
of the par 5s in two (certainly not from the whites), I don't expect it
to happen again for a long time.

I think Leon Chalme has chased everyone off. :-)

At 68 y.o I have only had one eagle in my life!

Par 5, 8-iron approach shot holed out, much to everyone's surprise!
(Nice 16 balls collected from the 'eagles nest' though!)

Ah...I did have an HIO once, without witnesses so it doesn't
count,...130 meters par 3 7-iron.(Boring when you're just practicing on
the course on your own, wasted the hole!)

There have been two HIOs (different players) in the first two days of
the Oz Masters, (European Tour co-santioned event) presently being
played in Melbourne. The second HIO was at the $1M hole...but on the
wrong day! Now that would really piss me off!

cheers

John,
If you are referring to Leon Chamae, I think your remark is a little
uncalled for. Leon has contributed very usefully on a number of Rules
issues.
I for one have welcomed his contributions.
We discuss many subjects here: the Rules is only one of them. If you find
understanding the Rules a real turn off, maybe others may feel the same
about:
club construction and maintenance;
shoes, bags and other equipment;
beer festivals;
the history of golf;
opinions on clubs and balls;
the unified handicapping system;
how to cure swing faults;
FA2008;
the majors;
the Curtis, Ryder, Solheim and Walker Cups;
foxes as outside agencies;
etc

Malcolm,

I appreciate the kind words. I can assure you that John's comment
was meant in jest (note smiley).

JvdP is a budding rules-student and a fine human being. We have
shared several rounds together (rounds of golf and rounds of
drink).

ML,

Yes, I was referring to Leon Chamae (got his last name wrong). I
believe that you took my comment the wrong way.

Leon and I have traded good natured barbs back and forth a few times.
I was merely sending a friendly jab his way -- thus the ":-)" at the
end of the comment.

I too have enjoyed his insights into the rules. In fact, I make it a
point to always read Leon's posts.

See, you really are my b!tch (and the 2 trophy golf balls
that I won from you are just more proof of that).

I threw both of those matches to make sure your fragile ego didn't
shatter. Though it was nice of you to buy me lunch after the second
one.
