one for the rules peeps
Discussion in bar yesterday after a v pleasant round at Lindrick.
Matchplay, fourball. 2nd man from pair one tees off, makes very
slight contact, ball falls off tee and lies on teeing ground.
2st man from pair two steps up to play and deliberately knocks other
ball away saying it's where he wants to play from. doesn't mark it.
can the ball be replaced and played, indeed even teed up as still on
teeing ground? Is there a penalty to the chap who knocked it away?
I don't have copy of the rules so can't look it up.

Bill,
Rule 18-3b answers the first part of the question. The ball is in play
and an opponent has deliberately moved it. One stroke penalty to the
one who struck the ball away.
The same rule, in its last sentence, says "If the ball is moved it
MUST be replaced." This time rule 20-5 is not applicable as was the
case in Paul's query.
