North Vs South FOA 2008
I had a meeting the NEC today so popped into Forest of Arden on the way
to check our arrangements.

On driving in there were deer roaming on the tenth fairway and over the
green. I didn't ask if they had soft spikes! There must have been 20
plus of them, awesome sight and they roam free on the back nine of the
course.

The course looked fantastic, lots of wildlife, pheasant, deer, ducks
etc.

I was met by the lady organising our booking and assured we will be
looked after. I can see no reason why we won't be. I explained our
problems last year and she was most apologetic. The rooms are
undergoing a total re furb scheduled to be completed before we play next
year so that should be a bonus. Completion is due in March, so I think
they will really be finished :-)

We have a private dining area and bar area, with a balcony overlooking
the 18th. Couldn't be any better. It's a little like the terrace you
see the victorious Ryder Cup team on at The Belfry.

It was really busy today, so I can see why they want to be sure of
numbers, loads of conference type people mid week, but at the weekend
they change to golfers :-)

I still have a booking for 24, we are 19 confirmed a the moment. The
facilities look awesome, I'm tempted to stop another night so i can
enjoy things a little more! I can hold this booking until just after
Christmas with no financial penalty. It would be nice if we could get
ourselves to 24 golfers.

My only concern on looking through all the terms and conditions is the
noise limit of 75dB! Certain people may be tested by H+S executives :-)

Just a reminder of the deal for those tempted to come and join us.

The booking is for Sunday 20th April 2008 at the rate of £119.00 per
person based on 2 sharing. £154.00 for a single. Rates include full
use of leisure facilities. dinner bed and breakfast with dinner in a
private dining area.

Tee Times;
20/4/08 Golf is booked on the Aylesford Course 12.06pm - 12.51pm 6 x tee
times for 24 people
21/4/08 Golf is booked on the Arden Course 10.00am - 10.50am 6 x tee
times for 24 people

The non-Golfer rate will be £84.00 per person if sharing, so a room with
1 golfer and 1 non golfer including Dinner and Breakfast for both people
will be £203.00 per room.

So this is not the last call for other attendees, but you might be sick
of my messages in a few months if we don't get five more! It's a
stunning venue, dead easy to get to, and at a bargain price. In the
words of an East Anglian Football person, " Let's be 'avin' you"

Sounds great, well done with tying things up Bill. I hope we can get
those extras to join in and make it 24 there are still a few regular
posters to this newsgroup who don't seem to have taken the plunge but
would be great to see them: Chalky? LizG? Johnnybike (Hallas)? Kev? Sam?
Mike Short PK? Ian Clarke? Nigel B? Stephen Stewart? Steve Bolam? Thomopac?

I'm sure I've missed loads of people out, apologies if you've not been
namechecked and you wanted to and apologies if you have and didn't but
there you go, eh!

That's one of the nicest posts I have seen in a while, thanks Demetri.
I had thought about asking to go on one of these do's, but not being a
particularly good golfer, and not knowing anyone rather unnerved me -
you have single handedly put that particular fear in the bin!

I'm a 25 handicapper having been badly injured a couple of years ago - I
used to be in single figures, and that's never likely to come back; but
I still love the game and am professionally involved, even though my
game is sometimes painful to see!

What's the deal about paying? Cheque in advance? Deposit? I'd love to
be there and put faces to the names....

My daughter plays, and rather well, even though she's not a usenet suer
- would she be welcome too? Madeline Bourne, plays off 19, 25 years
old.

Cheers chaps and chapesses.....

Nigel

There will be a small deposit to pay in advance to cover prizes and a
deposit to the hotel. Likely to be around £30 per person but not
confirmed yet. This can be by bank transfer or cheque. The rest is
payable to the hotel on departure. I'll not be asking for deposits for
another month or so, just a confirmation of interest at this stage.

Of course you would both be welcome, it would be lovely to see new
faces, I was one last year!

The golf is not the important thing at these events, it really is a
cracking social event, and the facilities here are top notch.

'Ere we go! Injured golfer...used to be single figures...playing off
25...better get the engraving done now and have done with it. And when
it comes to pain, you haven't seen my putting yet

Also glad to hear that your daughter isn't a usenet suer or else I'd
likely be in trouble ;-)

Seriously though, women golfers, non-geeks and non-golfers are always
welcome to the 'party' - golf and computer talk are only part of the
fun. There is general chat, eating, drinking and even badger watching if
you're up late enough! (I think this might change to late night deer
stalking at FoA by the sounds of it)

Whatever, don't count on losing weight or getting much sleep!

How we doing for numbers for this one, Bill? I've got someone interested
