E.L.G.A.
Please note that from January 1 the new structure for the E.L.G.A., voted
for at the recent EGM and following a huge natonwide consultatoin, will come
into force. One important change is that it will henceforth be the 'English
Women's Golf Association', not 'Ladies'. This will obviously be most
clearly seen at club level in the change from Lady Captain(L.C.) to Women's
Captain - yes - W.C. -deep joy!!

Seriously, things are afoot as the Welsh Ladies Golf Union and the Welsh
Golf Union have already agreed to merge. The English equivalents are
talking (probably for the first time in history) but they have stalled
already as the EL, sorry - W - GA 'refuse to move to The Belfry'. Nice to
know that the names and the structure have changed but little else seems to
have done:((

Love & peace

Janet (who will never have the W.C. tag - at least not for the above reason!)

What was wrong with 'Female'? At least it would have maintained an
pronouncable acronym.

I would be happy to be in a unified EGU as the word Golfers should
include everyone who participates in the game regardles of age or gender
and until the EGU as it is starts to approach their business in a way
which is inclusive of all it's stakeholders, for wont of another word,
it will find it hard to rid itself of it's blazered fuddy duddy image.

PS I thought the EGU was based at Woodhall Spa not the Belfry.

I used to play a lot of ladies hockey and one day it was suddenly called
women's hockey for some reason - I never did understand why hockey had to
change then as I don't know why golf has to change now!
What was the reason for changing it?

When I wer a lad back in t'days when I wer deliverin' Hovis on mi push
iron down t'cobble streets, being called a gentleman was a compliment
and a term of respect. Maybe these days men are no longer gentlemen and
women are no longer ladies, and the words are now linked more to public
conveniences rather than a way of behaviour.

Personally, I have never felt patronised by being called a gentleman, if
ever the person calling me one felt it appropriate to do so, but I'm not
sure it's the same for women. The term lady seems to have a inference of
not being in as much control as the word woman maybe, or even it has
something to do with class. Somehow, 'the women of Blackpool' seems to
have a subtle difference about it to 'the ladies of Blackpool'.

More attempts at politically correct driven social engineering and
amorphousisation by the thought police I fear. Hopefully they wont stop
me making almost unpronouncable words up!

It also seems to tag an age aspect to the person too and we have
witnessed just this week a quite capable 'gentleman' being hounded out
of his job by faceless people constantly badgering him about his mature
years. In our youth worshipping society I suppose men and women are
young, and gentlemen and ladies are old from of a time long gone

Because these days all ladies are women but not all women are ladies! :-)
