Rust and stuff
My 'forged' irons keep getting a sort of rusty deposit on the backs (as
opposed to the chromed face) as well as the occasional spot rust on the
shafts.

Yes, I do wipe them (usually) after a round of golf in the wet and they
are kept in a locker rather than the car boot but I'm loathe to start
treating them without anything too aggressive to clean them up and
protect them from this winter's efforts.

Any suggestions, apart from don't play in the rain?

I use WD40 as well. My forged irons are only about 5 years old so not
sure my experience is valid. But on the care label that came with them
it suggested cleaning them with soapy water, and once dry apply some
thin lubricating oil and gently wipe off the excess.

No rust yet.

Bearing in mind though that some wedges are designed to rust as this
improves backspin/grip.

Yes, it's fabulous stuff. Keeps your clubs pristine, stops the
trolley wheels from squeaking, makes you more attractive to wimmin,
you name it.

There's even a WD40 fan club...

Don't worry about it - life's too short, get out and enjoy.

My forged John Letter Master Models have sat in the shed for much of the
last 40 odd years and still have not rusted, though close examination
might elicit the odd 'sorty of rusty deposit'. One things for sure they
aint gonna rot before I do .

Indeed, but they were probably made when things were built to last, I
enjoyed reading up about them on the Letters web site, I think there's
built in obsolescence these days.

I do what you suggest most times but I obviously examined too closely
last week whilst waiting for a green to clear - I'll have to get back to
looking at clouds and listening for birds again!
