Unlucky at Hull?
Looking at the TV replays of Bullard's free kick goal, that was definitely
unlucky. A double deflection which finds its way into the net is nothing
more than good luck.if you're the attacking team, and sheer bad luck if
you're the defenders.

The penalty awarded at the end of the first half was also unfortunate. The
forward backed into the defender and knew exactly what he was doing when he
chose to fall over. And the kick should have been retaken for encroachment.

Agreed, the Fagin penalty wasn't a penalty but then the free kick that led
to the equaliser against Arsenal probably wasn't a free kick and the Upson
Assault on Venegoor of Humberside was as clear a penalty as you will see.

But it wasn't bad luck that we gave away stupid free kicks that led to two
of their goals. It was rank bad defending.

It wasn't bad luck that allowed their player to sneak in and score the
equaliser. It was rank bad defending.

It wasn't just bad luck that we conceded two soft goals against Fulham,
Stoke, Arsenal and Everton. It was rank bad defending.

Hmmm, I'm beginning to see a trend developing :-)

True, it can't just be bad luck that we haven't kept a clean sheet since
August (a shit defence and sloppy midfield may have something to do with it,
but I'm no expert), but I feel it was more bad luck than anything else which
cost us the points on Saturday. With average luck, the first half would have
ended 1-2, and we'd probably have won it from there.

Text from me to my mate Terry Saturday 15:15:21 "I won't feel safe until we
are 3 up with 30 seconds to go" And I wasn't joking. As soon as they pulled
one back I knew we would blow it.

Text from me 16:14:21 "Hull down to 10. We're really in trouble now"

Despite the numerical advantage we barely threatened their keeper in the
last 30 minutes. And with all due respect he is probably the worst keeper in
the Premiership. With apologies to Kirlkand, Jenssen, Robinson, James and
Foster!

Scrappy equaliser aside, what did we create? Parker tripped up when through
on goal (but no confidence on my part he would have scored), Jiminez failing
to get it on target from 8 yards and Stanislas muffing an easy header.

It could have been worse. I dozed off on Sunday afternoon and dreamed that
the Spuds scored 9 . . . .

Mere coincidence :-)

Next you'll be telling me that our failure to adequately replace Bellend in
January cost us a European place!
