Opening game
New beginning same old West Ham?
Very very poor!
Ferdinand's defending was woeful. I hope we improve and quickly need to get
points on the board to settle them down.

Dire...... Or should I say Dyer!

Every season's the same, why don't we just start the season thinking we'll
settle for staying up and and anything better than 17th is a bonus...
Wouldn't be the same I suppose if we thought like that..... I suppose it
could have been worse, I could have been born in Tottenham!

No one looked any good. Then when they decided to hang on to their lead,
they scored again. Shambles.

Very disappointing, to put it mildly. A real let-down. Looking on the bright
side, things can only get better .... :-)

Curbs really did fu*k up big style there, no wonder City went and scored a
second with a back three made up of a left winger??

I am gutted, i really thought we were going to play some good stuff this
season, but the creativity just is not there. When the likes of Reading,
Birmingam, Derby turn up at UP and stick 11 behind the ball looking for a
point we will not break them down coz we don't know how!
Get that cheque book out Eggy, we need some creativity its no good buying
strikers if no one can open the door!

I was hoping we'd be getting off to a winning start but maybe this defeat
will be useful as a reality check. Either they're not as good as we thought
or the lack a few kicks up the arse (no pun intended). I'd rather lose the
first home game of the season than the last one. Especially as we don't know
what the table will look like come next May... Plenty of time for
improvement but I don't want to be at the bottom by Christmas! Come on you

I'm not really qualified to criticise Curbs and his advisors on the tactical
decisions taken, but, like you, I simply can't understand why he took
McCartney (one of our better defenders, on the day) off, and pulled
Etherington (one of our better attackers, on the day) back to wing back,
because that cost us the width Etheringtom was providing, which Ashton may
just have capitalised on. With the 20:20 vision of hindsught, it was a bum
move, and he should simply have substituted like for like, i.e. Ashton for
Zamora, who had tried hard, but wasn't really 'clicking'.

First requirement of a successful team is a sound defence, starting with
central midfield, and that team was lacking in that department. When we did
get the ball, we gave it away far too easily, with poor passing. You don't
need to be a Riquelme to be creative in midfield, you simply need to get the
ball, pass it and move. Easier said than done, perhaps, but we are talking
about men paid tens of thousands of pounds per week for their ability to do
just that, so hopefully they will settle and show their abilities soon.
