SPORTS BRIEFINGS; Glasgow Rangers To Fight Violence
The Glasgow Rangers will get tough against soccer fans involved in the kind
of violence that led to dozens of injuries and arrests before and after an
exhibition match in England on Wednesday night. According to David Murray,
chairman of the Scottish League champions: "We will boot out the
troublemakers. People who have been involved will not be back, and we may
have to reconsider our position about playing matches in England." About
8,000 Rangers fans traveled to Sunderland for the match. Violence flared
before and after the game. The police said 42 people, most of them Ranger
fans, were arrested on charges of vandilism, assault and disrupting public
order. (Published: July 30, 1993)
