anybody know?
If rangers and celtic (and aberdeen) keep picking up euro coefficient points
and we move up the coefficient tables - anybody got any idea when Scotland
gets another uefa cup place?

brilliant defensive performance tonight - organisation and committment was
unbelievable. Apart from a couple of lapses by Papac, the back four were
immense and didn't put a foot wrong. I was speaking to a guy connected to
Ibrox who says that the Lazio bid for Hutton was serious and was for £5m -
twice that wouldn't buy him now.

Great result for Rangers, hoping my lot can do something tomorrow.
Regarding the co-efficients, Scotland are lying 4th for this season
(http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/data/method3/ccoef2008.html)
whilst Rangers are 4th in Europe for this year behind Arsenal, man U, Barca
(was looking at this earlier tonight, can post a link if needed). Need to
look up the UEFA site to see when we get another team. I hope we don't get
one too soon as all points accrued are averaged (see the link).

i.e. If we had another UEFA slot and they went out in the qualifying, our
average point rating would drop to 4, taking us from 4th to joint 9th for
this season. The last 5 years averages are averaged to give a co-efficient
rating for the country(see bottom of the linked page).

Hope this helps.

Yes, didn't someone post a link to an article about this recently?
Our co-efficient is hampered by the likes of hearts/dunfermline/raith/etc
getting a place in europe and buggering it up.

I think though that we have declined a place in uefa cup for our domestic
cup winners now, which might help a bit, seeing as it is usually won by the
1st 2nd or 3rd placed team, enabling the 'other' finalist (nomatter where
they lie in the league or outwith it[SPL]) entry.

Cheers mate, much appreciated - great link as well.

Take the point about an extra team maybe doing us damage BUT if Hibs
continue to improve we'd have a team that could potentially get a good few
points for us in Europe and both Hearts and Aberdeen could do the same. And,
of course, more exposure to european football will improve the overall
standard.

What we have got to stop doing is allowing diddy teams getting into Europe
because they were Scottish Cup runners up. if you win the cup, fine. If you
don't and the winners are the SPL champs, then the UEFA cup spot should be
awarded by league placings. Gretna and Dunfermline have done us no good at
all.

Have we? I thought it was only "declined" to beaten finalists?

I think we are a ways off that and it's the last thing we need the way the
system works, it would be a poisoned chalice IMO. Getting the SPL champions
automatic entry is the realistic goal.

That sounds more plausible, so probably your right.
