Doomed
Ain't looking forward to this season, signings aren't up to spec the same as
others as far as I can see.Even Keane has pulled the stops out,all we have
from Ashley is to get the wage bill down, sell Smith[which may be right if he
authorizes a better replacement with cash] but I don't see it.
If we finish mid table I'd be surprised and Kevin may walk before then
Best bet is a massive take over from abroad and to inject some real cash for
real top players.
If Owen/Martins/Viduka[don't think so] fire up we may have a chance and if
Milner/Z'ogbia/Duff go on fire also, but it's a tall order.
Don't look like a happy, eager club to me from the manager/owner down.
Watched them since a boy in '51[apart from Service spell]but this looks
gloomy to me.
Hope I'm wrong.

what exactly is wrong with the signings so far then?

guttierez and guthrie both look like good captures to me, and i'd
rather thave them in my side than diouf and malbranque.

coloccini or chimbonda? tough one to call there, i think not. World
class international centre half, or a moaning journeyman?

to be fair, the signings haven't been flowing very fast, but the
quality of player we've brought in so far seems pretty good to me.

the players all look like theyre enjoying life at the club at the
minute too, which didnt seem to be the case 9 months ago.

not expecting a massive rise up the table, but we'll do a hell of a
lot better than last year, that's for certain.

Guttierez? Unknown Argentine signed from Spanish 1st division club.
Apparently not scared of the biting North Sea wind... Tell me where you got
Marcelino from?

Guthrie? Unproven Liverpool reserve player?

Did not see the usual toon army gathering outside St Jimmies welcoming
them..

Diouf and Malbrangue? Yer having a laugh Chris. Surely!

Coloccini? 30 odd caps for is country, not bad but world class? I'd never
heard of him. He aint signed yet?

Chimbonda... Wisey tried to nick him before he signed...

Note the comparison with Sunderland signings...

Like most mags now, rather than aim for top 4 or UEFA cup they just wanna
finish above Sunderland. Oh what a come down eh!

Crossposted... Hopefully to fuel a bit debate..

My opinion....

Bottom half finish for the big three...
Boro survive relegation only because ov the shite thats come up...
Keegan gone before Santa comes...

i merely compared them to sunderland's signings because thats what
shipwreck used as his reference point.

having seen gutierrez play a few games he looks like he could be
pretty handy, and as for coloccini, having 30-ish caps for argentina,
being regarded as one of the best centre halves in the spanish league,
does, imo, make him pretty much world class.

keane just seems to have signed players he'd like to have a fight
with.

i mean diouf is hardly brilliant, he had bags of potential but he's
just turned into a pretty average p[remiership player during his time
at bolton, and chimbonda just doesn't impress me, and never has.

i'd be surprised if he's there still for the 2009/10 season, he'll
have found another reason to moan and move again by then.

i actually think we'll both finish around about mid-table, creeping
into the top half, and boro will be the poorest relations in the
league.

keegan sacked or quitting before christmas? about as likely as Hull
city staying in the prem.

but hey, if you're happy with your lot buying spurs' castoffs fair
enough, but i wouldnt be.

usually they do yes, we'll just have to wait and see how he settles,
but from looking over his stats for the past few seasons, he should
hopefully be the centre half we've been cryin out for ever since we
sold woodgate.

i'm pretty certain you'll do better than you did last year, but i
really question the signings of diouf and chimbonda, unless keane is
just after sparring partners... ;)

i doubt we have ever been after chimbonda, every summer he's been
linked with us for about 3 year, and if we'd had any interest i think
we would have seen a more definite bid.

but hey, if you feel happy imagining you beat us to his signing, knock
yersel oot :)

Hey Eyan - I remember not so long ago when Chris said he
couldn't be arsed about Sunderland but now he seems to be
paying attention.

Today, one team is on the way up and the other is trying to
arrest a steady decline. One has stable ownership and
management and the other is in constant flux. How times have
changed. You're right - they used to think they were in the
same league as ManU, Chelsea and Arse and had a God-given
right to Europe. Now reality is hitting home :-)

aye, but we'll still finish above you in the league :)

and i'd hardly say we're in constant flux, but then i'm not daft
enough to believe the sunday tabloids as if theyre gospel :P

I wouldn't count my chickens yet - your squad has been
underperforming for several years.

I don't read the Sunday papers - don't see them over here -
but since Sir Bobby left I would hardly describe the club as
"stable".

well whilst underperforming we've still been better than sunderland,
so by that same reasoning, if we improve this season, we'll still be
better than you lot :P

i'd say it's certainly the most stable it's been now since those days,
purely because i don't believe any of the stories about ashley looking
to sell, or any of the other doom-mongering tripe that comes out of
the national tabloids.

the whole squad seems happy, we seem to be bringing in the right sort
of player, compared to the money-grabbing charlatans we have overpaid
for in the past.

Care to resume this thread?? :-)

I have to admit that the Mags in here showed mercy during our
dire season a few years ago so I promise not to pour salt on
the wounds. The sooner your lot sort themselves out and start
acting professionally the better. That's one thing I can say
about us - no matter how bad it got a few years ago we didn't
have to go through any of this sort of crap.
