Yeah, literally a proper heavyweight fight!
think Ashley's got a stronger chin.

he may have seen some of the books, but the fact that they discovered
the debt was much larger than they believed, due to the way shepherd
and co had cooked the books won't have pleased him, and you can bet
it's the reason freddy only stayed on as chairman for a few weeks in
the summer.

Oh - obviously Ash's accountants are as good as FFS himself then. So how
much debt was there then? I remember it being about £70m officially before
you bought back the NTL stake and saved something like £20m. Cant be worse
than that now surely?

Ashley has come out and said it was closer to £100m, and Mort has come
out and said that if Ashley hadn't bought the club there was every
chance it would have crippled us.
You have to remember that he didn't go through the usual due diligence
procedure when he bought the club, it was all done very quickly after
he bought the hall's shares.
due diligence on a business that size could take up to a couple of
months, which is how long it seemed to take those consortiums sniffing
around NUFC last year to decide against a bid after they begun the
process.
put it this way: shepherd and douglas hall have obviously done
something to piss off ashley, and considering the only real contact
theyve had with him is in the sale of the club, it must be down to
that. the fact he seems to have no real issue with sir john hall
himself speaks volumes, as he has had nothing to do with the day to
day running of the club for a decade or so now.
we all knew freddy was as bent as a nine bob note, it's just starting
to come to light exactly how dodgy he was.

yeah I read something similar that we could've gone bust like Leeds if
he didnt put another 30m of his own cash to decrease the debt amount.

Re: Shrek and family banned from their family box at SJP!
From what I read - there are conflicting accounts on how much the debt actually was - the initial
debt was £80M. Ashley's accountants later discovered that the actual amount was between £100M and
£120M. Ashley had to fork out an additional £30M to make the debt repayments managable without
affecting the day to day running of the club.
There we are, Fat Fred has been caught out... the rest, well, we know - or do we?
