Cancelling setanta sports
Be warned

as I've had trouble

found this

I expected the number of hits from people searching under the term "Setanta
Sports Problems" to drop. It didn't, until today, when the favourite search
term suddenly changed to "cancelling Setanta Sports".

Somebody at Setanta really needs to get their backside kicked for the poor
customer service they are offering there. It is clear that lots of their
customers are deeply unhappy, emails are not being answered and lots of
people regret making the choice to go with Setanta.

Dear All,
It is disheartening to see so many negative comments when we are improving
so quickly. Believe me, I do undertsand what it is like to be waiting on the
phone for long durations of time only to end up talking to an inexperienced
agent - we've all been there and as per previous emails, its not good enough
and I offer no excuses. We are indeed the new boys and contrary to how we are
perceived, we do want to offer a world class service and are moving very
quickly in that direction. However, as simple as it may sound, increasing
headcount is not something that can generally be done at a flick of a switch
and yes, once we get these guys on board they not only have to be trained
but supported in order to get up to speed - again, that does take time. Those
of you on the Satellite platform would have noticed a much quicker call
answering time over recent weeks with the experience starting to show
through with Agents. Its far from perfect I agree but I would ask you to
support us - If you believe we are getting better and doing that relatively
quickly then stand by us - we will get this right! On Freeview, it has taken
us a little longer to get the right and are days away from having sufficient
people on board at this stage - again, it will take a couple of weeks for
them to gain the necessary experience. The anonymous post re cam and card
issues posted on 21st August, can you pass me your details please (please
pass via Nich , who I'm sure will be kind enough to relay to me) as I would
like to resolve asap.

If you're on about cancelling the service and can't get hold of them, not
through want of trying, I'd go and instruct my bank to stop payments being
made. There is no contract, so you're not going to be breaching one. Yes,
there is a minimum of a two month sub, but let them try and take you to
court and explain there that you went to great lengths to give them the
required month's notice, but because of lack of service on *their* part, you
were unable to do so. That's what I'd do, anyway.

My Mum and Dad have got in on Freeview, they're fairly happy with it by all
accounts. Besides the 46 EPL games, there are 60 SPL games...so if you like
watching neutral football games, or the Euro league games and our smaller
league games, along with the other stuff like Golf and Rugby (eww!), I
personally think it's not bad at all for the price. I especially like how
you don't have a twelve month contract.

I was going to subscribe to Setanta with that Hatton offer, now I'm
glad I didn't. I waited and am now on the £9.99 per month, no contract
offer.

If anyone wants to unsubscribe from a company with a poor customer
service, the best thing is to cancel by writing in by recorded
delivery, give the 30 days notice and then cancel the Direct Debit.

I'll not be getting anymore fights

if they start threatening me with court etc, I'll threaten them with small
claims court as they took the money after I cancelled over phone and knew I
cancelled as they rang back to get me to resubscribe.

Re: Cancelling setanta sports
I'm just glad I didn't pay by credit card, 6 month in this day & age ;o(

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/moneybox/2099270.stm

Moneybox listener Robert Webster signed up for a range of business services
costing about £60 a month using his credit card.
Everything was fine until he tried to cancel. He called the retailer - that
did not work, so he called the card company.
"They said they could not do it without the supplier instructing them that
they would not be taking any more direct debits," he said.
Robert decided to cancel his card but his account with the card company
carried on, so the debts kept piling up.
While direct debits are a relationship between customers and their banks,
credit card regular payments are an agreement between customers and the
retailer.
Companies who set up direct debits are vetted by the banks. But you may
authorise any company with a Visa code, anywhere in the world, to set up a
continuous payment from your credit card.
And it is not just consumers who do not know the difference.
Money Box's Martin Lewis spoke to a range of credit card companies, banks
and industry bodies, few of whom recognised the cancellation process was
different.
No warnings
To cancel a continuous payment authority, you must first contact the
retailer.
If the retailer does not reply, cannot be contacted or refuses to stop
collecting the payment, contact the card company, who will start a dispute
process. Visa Europe Vice President Fiona Wilkinson explained the process.
"If it can be proven... that should be the end of it... it could take up to
six months."
Unlike direct debit it involves proof. It is not simply a case of telling
the bank to stop paying.
Yet even though the consumer could end up paying for six months of services
they do not require, the credit card companies are not issuing warnings to
customers.
A Credit Card Research Group spokesman Matthew Whiticker admits:
"We do need to clear the confusion. It is not in the card issuer's interest
because the dispute is expensive for the company.
"But because it is such a small part of the market it has not been a number
one priority."

Just ring up and say you've lost the card. The credit card company will
stop all payments until you've activated your new card.

Re:Cancelling setanta sports
Cancelling Setanta is IMPOSSIBLE !

Be Warned.

I have now writen 3 times to the Setanta Customer service dept requesting
cancellation of my account. I received 3 acknowledgements saying they would
respond within 5 days. I have not received a single repsponse from them so I
cancelled my Direct Dept (that got their attention!). I received a letter
from them with a number to call, which I did. I was on the phone for 35mins
before someone picked up and then was told that they could not cancel
subscriptions, transfered - then cut off. Tried the next day, held for 40
mins, spoke to a Cust services representative who said I must clear the
outstanding balance before I can cancel - so I did. I was Transfered and
was told I had to put it in writing argh !

I told them that no-one from their Cust services dept had bothered to reply
and I was told the address for cancelling was in the terms and conditions.
So it's my fault but why couldn't somebody have told me that when I mailed
their customer services 3 times !

So for the benefit of customers who wish to cancel, you must give 30 days
notice and write to -

Setanta Sports, Dept 8544, Sunderland, SR9 9XZ

If you want to write a letter of complaint (as I will be doing) write to -

PO Box 182, The Quays, Newry, BT 35 5AS

I will be writing as the customer service I received is among the worst !

Additionally - Setanta should make it clearer on their Web site what the
cancellation process is.

When I eventually get un-subscribed I will not be re-subscribing - be warned.

Re: Re:Cancelling setanta sports
I pay by direct debit from my bank and I cancel by telling my bank to stop payments and informing
Setanta of that by letter. If you pay by other methods, e.g. visa, it is going to be bloody hard
work.

Re:Cancelling setanta sports
I think you are all right as i have tried to cancel it today. first you
cannot get throughto customer service and the only way i got through is to
go to subscribtion depatment who put me through to customer service who then
try to tell me to ring back because there is a long lis of people waiting to
get connectedto cancellation people. but then i did get connected within 2
minutes. it does not end there i got told i hav o write into them and then
it will take upto 2 months to get the service cancelled. that is just
pathetic. i think something has to be done about this. he told me to read
terms and conditions which does not say anything about two months. there has
to be something done here.

Re: Re:Cancelling setanta sports
Just inform your bank to cancel direct debit subs to Setanta and mail a letter to Setanta informing
them of it. End of the matter.

If you pay your subs by credit card, bad move mate.
