0-0 full time
so it looks like it back to the old days... by that I mean teams sitting
back waiting for Newcastle to do nothing in the first 20 minutes and
then the toon army loose interest.

Villa did this and they should have won the game but thanks to Harper he
kept us in the game.

the run down
Harper: great save that kept us in the game
Carr: Can not read the game going forward, goes for the player and not
the ball.. why is he still at the club?
N'Zogbia: Make shift left back, looses the ball to easily
Rosenhal: Had Newcastle's best chance to score
Taylor: good game but got caught out and lost the ball because there was
no movement up front.
Butt: Solid, got in where it hurts
Geremi: In and out of the game
Milner: Not his best game (IMO), needs to play down one flank and not
switch all the time.
Smith: What was his role?
Viduka: I expected more from him.
Martins: He's not a happy player at the moment, when he should have ran
with the ball he stopped and played it back.

Owen: The way I heard it he got a mixed reception from the crowd. did
nothing when he came on but then again he's not a winger

Ameobi: brought on for Viduka and I didn't see any difference, both slow
as f*ck and it seems both can't head a ball

Cacapa: Not much time to see what he can do

Overall a very disappointing home game from start to finish... question
still hangs over Owen and Martins, can they play on the same pitch at
the same time.

I don't know what sort of formation we are plying but if it's 4,4,2 we
should have smith playing just behind the front 2 and not right or left
side of midfield.

Which manager came out on top.... O'Neill for me

Well I suggest you get your ears checked, he got a standing ovation.

I thought it was a very even game and neither team deserved the win but
neither really deserved to lose either. Was a very defensive minded
Villa who clearly came for a point and newcastle didn't have many fit MF
to choose from which limited Sams attacking options late in the game...

Always been a good keeper and would have been a first choice for many
other clubs over the years, his job is to make saves so you can't really
say this was 'lucky'

> Carr: Can not read the game

I agree with you here...he isn't up to the job needed and either gets
forward well and lacks defensive stability or stays back and leaves the
right winger on his own too much.

> N'Zogbia: Make shift left back, looses the ball to easily

Thought he played very well and linked up well with Milner, and as it's
not his normal preferred position he did ok difensively.

> Rosenhal: Had Newcastle's best chance to score

Looks a good player, given time to adjust to the premiership will do well!

> Taylor: good game but got

Maybe a bit of trying to 'over-impress' after his england call up and does
suffer from ego at times but is still only 20 and will improve this side
of his game.

> Butt: Solid, got in where it hurts

very consistant performer for the toon since his move back from Birmingham
and will be hard done by to be dropped when Emre or Barton are fit.

> Geremi: In and out of the game

Thought he had a solid performance without being special.

> Milner: Not his best game (IMO), needs to play down one flank and not

One of the best young midfielders in the country, always willing to graft
for the team but tired in the second half (which isn't surprising
considering the amount effort he put in). Again still only 20 and will
get better and has the right attitude.

> Smith: What was his role?

Couldn't quite understand this either, seemed to be playing as a 3rd
holding midfielder and not getting forward as much as you would like him
to.

> Viduka: I expected more from him.

Dropped his head after a few bad calls against him and then never really
got into the game. he has games like this, we may as well get used to it
- although a bit of support would have probably helped here.

> Martins: He's not a happy player at the moment, when he should have ran

Not my favourite player. Scored good goals but doesn't have the skill to
be involved in general play, and isn't a winger.

> Owen: The way I heard it he got a mixed reception from the crowd. did

Had a great reception from where I was sitting. Looks rusty is all and
i'm sure if he keeps fit will only get better.

> Ameobi: brought on for Viduka and I didn't see any difference, both slow

Think you must have been watching a different game to be honest as I
thought he looked quite good when he came on. Everyone slates Shola but
he has a good work ethic on the pitch but just looks awkward with his long
legs.

> Cacapa: Not much time to see what he can do

Fair enough, only came on late so no real chance to see what he has got in
his locker

Think Sam is trying to play 4-3-3 or even 4-2-1-3, but the players he
currently has fit are slightly off for this formation and again it looks
like round pegs in square holes. I think sam had the right idea and if
he had the likes of Emre, Barton or Duff to call on in the second half to
get some fresh legs into the game may well have come off with 3 points.

What I must get off my chest (as in a dedicated post here) is that Booing
players on your own team for a draw is not the answer people and if thats
what you want to do then stay at home please!

personally with a fully fit squad though i hope Sam plays 4-4-2 with the
team of:

Given,
Geremi, Taylor, Rozehnal, Enrique
Milner, Butt, Barton, N'Zogbia
Viduka and Owen

Bench:
Harper, Cacapa, Smith, Emre, Martins

(still leaving Carr, Duff, Shola out of the squad which is not going to go
down well!)
