There we go...
http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2124229,00.html

Michael Owen said last night that he will be a Newcastle United player
this season. The England striker talked in glowing terms of his early
experiences under the new manager, Sam Allardyce, and said he had also
been impressed by the new backroom staff, players and directors.

"I believe that these can be good times to be at Newcastle, which is
why I am more than happy to be here," he said. "There has been plenty
of speculation about my future but I can assure the Newcastle fans
that I didn't start any of it."

-------------

took it's time in coming, mind, but can we (and more importantly the
tabloid bastards) move on and concentrate on who's coming in?

You believe that don't you, all that tells me is that none of the big clubs
wanted him.

So he had to do a bit of backtracking.

At last he came out and said what everyone wanted to hear but these
guys have a point.

the only way the club can shut these lot up is to tear up his current
contract and renew it without the get out clause!
I wonder if boyo would agree to that. he should if he is committed to
the club.

At last he came out and said what everyone wanted to hear but these
guys have a point.

the only way the club can shut these lot up is to tear up his current
contract and renew it without the get out clause!
I wonder if boyo would agree to that. he should if he is committed to
the club.

contract?!

You believe that don't you, all that tells me is that none of the big clubs
wanted him.

So he had to do a bit of backtracking.

Yup....that was my first thoughts too. No one has come in for him so he
has quickly said his peace to get back on the side of the fans for the
start of the season and then he can score some goals in the start of the
season and then move on in Januray when he has proved his fitnessand has a
chance to play int he Champions League. Alternatley we may be doing
quite well in the league by then and Ashley has splashed his cash and he
will be keen to stay and get European football with us next season.....
who just saw that pig???

Nope, just get rid of the release clause in his contract, all image
rights, wages etc stay the same as before but his get out clause to go
up to 40m not fekin 9m.
Thats what they do in Spain and it deters a lot of clubs from poaching
top players from each other.

well no, they do it in spain because it's in their rules that every
contract has to have a buyout. the ridiculous values imposed are there
because they're unrelaistic, as you say, so the top clubs aren't
buying from each other.

owen won't have the clause taken out of his contract, not unless he's
offered a huge wedge of cash to do so and we're doing well in the
league.

No chance of that happening. Its not a release clause in his contract I
am particularly bothered about but its the amount of it and depreciation
clause that has me puzzled. Why would you pay 17m for someone to have
them go for 9m in 2 years time? And then come the end of this season it
will be worth something stupid like 4 or 5m and then he will only have 1
year left and will most probably leave on a free anyway.

Well it's not his money, it comes from the suckers who pay season tickets

because he was supposed to be a respnsible business man in charge of a
publically limited company, charged with running it as successfully as
he could.

instead, he just showed he's a bit of a desperate twat.

because he was supposed to be a respnsible business man in charge of a
publically limited company, charged with running it as successfully as
he could.

instead, he just showed he's a bit of a desperate twat.
