Future club directions...
Well, it looks as though the wrangling for club control has finally
started to wane and Mr Ashley will sooner rather than later assume full
control of the club. This begs the question as to what direction the
club will go in as far as transfer policies...
While some of us would like to see a Chelsea style buyup of every player
in the world who will have us challenging for the title next season there
are a number of other alternatives.
I for one would like to see Big Sam given his chance to shine. i was not
the biggest fan of his when he was first appointed but I must say I have
been very VERY impressed with his handling of things so far and has been
working hard to get rid of dead wood, shore up the defense and sort out
the backroom. He is also doing very well by the club, not simply
demanding loads cash to throw at the problem but instead still looking to
get the right players for the right price. Who can fault him for wanting
to strangthen with 2 free transfers and a deal for Barton which gives the
club a profit - how many recent managers can say they managed that one?
Even if a deal goes through for Rozenhal and he doesn't quite make it, can
we really complain at 3.3m for it? Surely a deal for Boumsong for
3million would have gone down a lot better than a deal of almost 10
mill...taking a chance on a player is a couple of million, for double
figures you want a proven player to step straight in and improve the
situation.
I also don't think a mass clearout and buying of playerswould do the club
any favours. People will only start hating us for being spoilt brats like
Chelsea and think we are too big headed...at least we can not be accused
of being glory hunting supporters :) I also think it would make
financial sense for Ashley to support Sam with some funds but to hold back
and let him first stabilise the club this season with hopes of a UEFA cup
slot and then push on the following season. this would allow more
investment into the buisness side of things, overseas profile and ground
expansion plans to give a much stronger platform for the supposed world
domination plans. plus I think he will be wanting to see a marked
improvement under Allardyce before opening the wallet for big name
signings for a manager largely untested with a cheque book policy.
I hope things are done right to uphold the integrity of the club and not
get swept up in the rediculous transfer policies of certain other clubs in
the Big Smoke. lets get behind the toon this coming season and show not
only Ashley but the rest of the country that we belong where we are surely
headed!
here's to the future!

More of a forced reality. Even Liverpool and now Arsenal struggle to
attract that quality of player - what hope for anyone else, billionaire at
the helm or not?
