Release clause in Corluka's contract.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/08/24/tottenham-still-hope-to-sign-vedran-corluka-115875-20710284/

How strange. If this is true and Corluka had agreed personal terms why
did Tottenham not invoke it straight away. £8Mill for Corluka is a
steal.

Re: Release clause in Corluka's contract.
Spurs had completed their paperwork on the deal but before City
completed theirs MH called him back to speak to him and persuade him to
stay.
Maybe MH wanted him to stay long enough for to get past Dunne's ban and
get a replacement in.
I fully expect him to move in the next week.

I'm aware of it but what I don't get is if there is a release clause
then all they had to do was up to £8mill. I can't see why Corluka
would have agreed to stay unless he was going to stay for the long
term. Let's hope so.
