In One Way I'm Glad....
...that England haven't been at Euro 2008, i haven't had to listen to that
fcuking awful dirge of a national anthem we're saddled with.
Apart from the tune being sh1te it says nothing about England, it's just a
christian/monarchist affirmation.
Compare it with Das Deutschlandlied, La Marseillaise or my favourite,
Il Canto degli Italiani. It's embarrassing.

You can say that again. Its even worse when England fans start singing
it during a game. Are they even aware what they are singing?

I believe Mrs Thatchers famous words from 1979 would make a fine
anthem for Britain.

Where there is discord, may we bring harmony.
Where there is error, may we bring truth.
Where there is doubt, may we bring faith.
And where there is despair, may we bring hope.
Margaret Thatcher, 3rd May 1979.

Vive la revolution.
What irks me most is that the provinces all have their own anthems (Flower
of Scotland, Land of My Fathers) yet we're stuck with the UK anthem rather
than Land of Hope and Glory or some such.

Don't disagree, but what would you use instead? Land of Hope and Glory is
all about God and the British Empire. Jerusalem is essentially a religious
song, but also mentions our "dark satanic mills". Not very flattering.

Re: In One Way I'm Glad....
Someone could put new words to an existing tune or write the whole thing
from scratch.
