Because if you get into the eufa cup you can attract better players, and 
fuck knows, we need them.

We're not talking Champions League here. The Bolton B team got through to 
the last 16 FFS. The standard is not that high. Yes, we may get our arses 
kicked, but even if that happens we should be wiser the following season.

But, for what its worth, I think it could be a good thing to have a run in 
Europe - and MUCH better than trying to achieve it via the Inter-toto cup 
route.

Don't disagree with the last bit. But it might be a bit easier to attract 
(and keep) top class players if you can offer them European football.

And while it may be true that we could fail in Europe, we fail in the FA cup 
and Carling cup every year anyway - so what's the difference?

Right, now for a little realism.  We don't need thirteen players.  We 
have had a serious defensive crisis because Nedum and Micah have both 
been injured.  Ball, Dunne, Richards, Corluka with Hamman sitting in 
front of them and Nedum to come on.  That means we need two defenders.  
Left-Back and Right-Back.

Nobody has been able to do the role which Hamman does but Hamman and 
Johnson were out at the same time so it is possible Johnson could do 
that role.  With Gelson and Stephen Ireland in the centre, Petrov on 
the wing so we need another winger.  That still leaves Elano and Geo to 
fit in although I am still unsure of Geo and as he hasn't had a good 
run in the side the Sven must be concerned too.

Strikers we have and if we can provide service to them then they will 
score.

I reckon we are three players short of a decent squad able to finish in 
the top six but any team who has pretty much their whole defensive unit 
ripped out is going to struggle and we have been extremely unlucky with 
injuries this season.

The closed season will be interesting and I hope Sven is kept on and 
allowed to go shopping for between 3-5 quality players.  Any more than 
that and it will likely be a waste.  The difficult one will be finding 
a goalkeeper willing to deputise for Joe when we all know that if he 
stays he will be number one for many a season.#
