A defence which have never played together before and an innefectual
midfield, that is what is going on. We look good going forward but
Liverpool will tear us apart next week if we defend like that.

I'm not quite sure how we lost that. I thought we dominated, until the last
20 mins. When Hart initially saved that penalty (great save, it was heading
for the corner) and it rebounded to one of their players, you knew it wasn't
our day. A makeshift defence didn't help. And the wisdom of playing Sun at
left back has to be questioned, he's a bit iffy at right back.

Re: S**T...
I'm very disappointed, but i'm inclined to credit Roy Hodgson with
spotting that City were coasting and changing his team to fully exploit
the makeshift defence.
We lost a lot of shape when Geovanni came on for Ireland.
Petrov had a very lazy second half, Johnson too.

Johnson is not and has not been right since he came back from injury
and to me looks like he has rushed back before being fully fit. Petrov
was outstanding and I don't think he had a lazy second half at all. We
changed a side which was dominating by bringing Geo on and although I
want him to be good he is not a sub player. If he is not good enough
to start and get a run in the team then he shouldn't come on as sub.
I don't think Ireland was doing anything spectacular but we definately
lost shape as soon as he left the field.
We have been shown to be lacking in depth within the squad and in the
closed season I am sure this will be rectified if the money is there.
I hope we can buy another decent Left-back, right-back and winger and
then we will have a squad which can challenge for Europe. I reckon we
are only three players short of it, if we don't lose anybody in the
summer.

Don't disagree with any of that. I'd add that I thought Sun Jihai was poor
and it was a pity we didn't give Williamson a start. Hindsight, of course.

A bit iffy? He's just never been Premiership class. I think we all tend to
forgive him cos he seems like a nice bloke, but honestly, I wouldn't cry if
we never saw him pull on a City shirt again.

Agreed. I thought Ireland was outstanding yesterday. Geo was very ball
greedy but partly that was because people weren't moving around him.

Johnson is definitely not the player he was. Perhaps he has his mind on
playing at Anfield next year?
The fella behind me thought Petrov was lazy too. I sometimes think people
should have to pass some sort of intelligence test before being allowed to
speak at matches - there's ALWAYS some idiot, usually behind me, who moans
about every thing they possibly can, makes offensive comments or starts
hounding one of our own players. But that would reduce the attendance even
more, which was really poor considering it was the last home game.

I'd be surprised if we didn't lose anybody, but I'm inclined to agree -
we're ALMOST there. I'm sure though that some of our reserve/youth
defenders could have provided better cover than yesterday's reshuffle.

Re: S**T...
His not tracking back can be a liability. We can maybe get away with it
with Ball at left back but yesterday, after they changed their forwards,
it was exposing Sun. There was was one incident about a minute before
the penalty, Petrov had the ball in their box, the attack broke down and
they moved the ball forward and had Sun defending the left of our box.
Where was Petrov, stood watching on the corner of their box.
He's been around long enough to know that after they got their first
goal we'd be put under more pressure and that would mean everyone in the
team doing their bit to resist.

I don't fancy watching him get dressed either... ;-)
Seriously though, I think he's OK, not great, but OK. His main problem is
giving away lots of really stupid fouls, like he did yesterday. I think he
gets the pitch and the dojo mixed up...

I forgot he was on the pitch. I don't know if it's contract talks that are
distracting him, or whether he's just settled down into his comfort zone now
that he's an established 1st team player. Definitely the least effective of
the midfield 3. But Ireland seems to get better with every game and I
thought that Gelson was excellent yesterday.

Re: S**T...
Just thinking aloud, but maybe the lesson from that game is that full on
attacking football, which was Fulham after their substitutions, gets better
results than a defensive line up.

Re: S**T...
I must say that i thought Ireland had a good game yesterday.
I'd love to know what's going on with Johnson.
Is he not 100% fit, coasting towards his summer holiday or dreaming of
Anfiield.
See how he plays next Sunday ;-)

He's not a defender he's a defensive midfielder. A good squad utility
player who can come in and do a job as a substitute but shouldn't be a
starter.
