Re: Perfect day
Just got back home - missed the match, because I had to pick up family from
Liverpool airport (1hr.30 min flight delay !)
so despite protestations from my wife an daughter, I was sat in my car in
the car park until half time screaming every goal like a gud 'un.

So proud of the team and the fans - who also took it to them (in terms of
support) even on the radio it was clear how anonymous the reds were -only
one winner.

Incidentally, did anyone know what those loud bangs were which could be
clearly heard during the minutes silence ? maybe Taggert trying to discredit
City fans (like has was in the media prior to the match ?) by getting in
some early teacup chucking ?

All in All, cannot remember when I have been so proud to be a Blue.

Laughed my arse off on the motorway when the commentators referred to
Taggert running to the touchline and tapped his watch at the linesman - what
an A Hole !

Only down side was conceding a late goal - Lads will be well annoyed at
that.

Actually looking forward to work....For the Reds at work tomorrow....there
will be pain Oh hell yes !

Aye, great performence. Not sure I'd change the team after that display.

Benjani definitely seems to give us more "presence" up front

I was actually in a grown up airport (Manchester) watching it in a bar there
as my g/f was getting back from Holland half way through the match. Weird
place to watch it - the silence (as was the commentary every 3 minutes) was
actually interrupted by "Please help us to reduce the number of security
incidents by ensuring you keep your bags with you at all times" and then by
my friend texting me to tell me I was wrong in my prediction that the
silence wouldn't go off.

To be honest, the silence being respected was all the result I needed. It
moved me to tears to think that perhaps this country isn't completely fucked
after all. And to be fair to Taggart, he did actually applaud the City fans
after the silence.

The performance was immense though. Obviously United were a little below
par, but we played a large part in making them play that way. Very tight in
midfield, rock solid defence and someone upfront who can actually hold the
ball up. Still on cloud 9.

We've been consistently been getting only 1 or 2 shots on target in our away
games of late. And yet yesterday we had 6 (and won as a consequence). Why?
I'm not sure, but I think it's because we played deep, but when the
opportunities arose, loads of players piled forward. Ergo, when Petrov was
putting his consistently excellent crosses in, there were loads of players
in the box to act on them. I suspect if you look back to the early part of
the season, this was also happening, whereas of late only a few players have
ventured forward. I wonder if this was a conscious decision, or usually lazy
players actually put a shift in because of derby day?

Re: Perfect day
I was pondering the same thing last night and my conclusions are that a)
we had someone playing the lone striker role who is suited to it and can
thus bring the midfield into play when the ball's played up to him, b)
Vassell is much better suited to playing wide right and attacking from
there, and c) Ireland much prefers to play through the middle rather
than wide in a sort of wingers role.
So what happens next game v Everton when Elano's available?
Drop Ireland in favour of him and leave Vassell wide? Or drop Vassell
and push Ireland back out wide?
Or make no change and let them show that yesterday's performance was no
fluke?
I'd make no change but the onus is on Ireland to keep his place against
Elano or show he can play wide better than Vassell.
