Working their socks off
Apparently, "We have spoken to the all people concerned with what happened
that particular tragic day - the players who were involved and families,"
quoth Taggart, "So yes we are doing the right things and we always try to do
the right things. The staff have been working their socks off for the last
six or seven months. It's a shame to then start saying this is wrong and
that's wrong.". Perhaps announcing "and now a minute's silence in memory of
the 23 people who lost their lives .... etc. " over the tannoy is a complex
task that requires many iterations of planning, approval at committee,
referral back to planning, legal approval etc.

We're making a huge mistake with this and should have gone for the
applause instead. It's not fair to the Munich victims or the City
fans. There is always going to be some idiots who will wreck things,
every club has them. I'm sureFerguson is referring to all the extra
activities planned for the day but for me this sort of thing should
have been held at the Cathedral, this just doesn't make any sense!

Absolutely right Red.
I hate the fact that some idiots choose to ignore the fact that any good
young men losing their lives is a tragedy. As you rightly say, every
club has its share of these morons but unfortunately they overshadow the
vast majority that respect the memory of those that died. Not that it
should make a difference, but they even seem to forget that one of
'ours' died that day too. I wonder how many of those that disrespect the
silence would actually be able to name more than, say, 3 of those that died.
Having said that I quite like the applause scenario in its own right.
Celebrating someone's life is somehow quite cathartic.

Of course it is, allowing people to actually show their emotions by
applauding is respectful and doesn't give the morons a stage to
perform on.
