Grêmio

In 1993 he returned to Grêmio, where he was criticised by the Brazilian
media for playing the ugly side of the beautiful game with his players
known for getting into brawls during matches. He won six titles in only
three years including the Copa Libertadores in 1995[4] which qualified
them for the Intercontinental Cup, which they lost to Ajax Amsterdam on
penalties.[5] The following year they won the Brazilian
Championship.[6]

His team featured no real superstar and depended on workman-like
players such as Paraguayan right back Francisco Arce (who he later took
to Palmeiras), the tough-tackling midfielder Dinho, Paulo Nunes and
centre forward Mário Jardel.[7]

Júbilo Iwata

In 1997, Scolari became manager of J. League side Júbilo Iwata, but
left after eleven games and shortly afterwards took charge of
Palmeiras, one of the biggest clubs in Brazil.

Palmeiras

In three years, he led Palmeiras to the Copa do Brasil, the Mercosur
Cup and their first Copa Libertadores title with a win on penalties
over Deportivo Cali of Colombia. They were also runners-up to
Manchester United in the 1999 Intercontinental Cup. He was named South
American Coach of the Year for 1999.

Cruzeiro

In 2000 he was appointed to manage Cruzeiro, coaching them for a year.
He led Cruzeiro to its first Brazilian Championship.

He's only been there a couple of months, having never managed a
European club, and having been out of club management for nearly a
decade - and in that time he's quelled the pockets of unrest in the
dressing room, got the club's key players to extend their contracts,
changed the team's deeply-ingrained style of play from pragmatic and
cautious to a far more free-flowing attacking style which has seen
them creating more chances and scoring more goals, led his unbeaten
team to top of the league table... While having to cope with an
increasingly horrific injury list (8 first teamers injured)... While
fending off and charming the media scavengers looking to shit-stir at
the first opportunity... While ignoring Ferguson's amateurish mind
games... While trying to improve his English...

And that doesn't impress you?

It impresses me Graf and Scolari is a legend back home in Rio Grande Do
Sul. An Italian-Brazilian he still maintains many Italian traits as
regards the game but plays more expansive football as you know.
"Felipao" had managed some of the greatest players in the game and
maintained discipline in the national side when he was in charge,
something Dunga is struggling with. The man succeeds at whatever he
puts his hand to and is a great motivator.

A simple man he concentrates 100% on the team ethic and cares not for
the media image. A devout Roman Catholic he once gave Kaka a
bollocking when he found cock mags in his bag at the airport (Kaka had
been set up). Chelsea will go far with Felipao in charge Graf do not
worry about that, his planning is meticulous and he leaves no stone
unturned. Also a man does not get to manage the Brazilian national
team without the right credentials and the knowledge of how to maintain
winning attractive football demanded by a large population.

Chelsea FC are also top of the Premier League, and top of their Champions
League Group. Whilst I know this is no indication of future performance,
it's not exactly a bad start to the season. So what more do people

'Ferguson' and 'amateurish' don't belong in the same sentence and you well
know it. It's akin to calling a top of the line Ferrari a jalopy...it just
doesn't make any kind of sense.

Also remember that Chelsea dragged their own arse into a champions league
final *and* challenged us close for a title with only a half decent manager
at the helm last season, so it is far too early to judge Scolari. If he
takes either of the big two titles off us, I'll be the first to put my hand
up and say he's done his job well.

Yes they are, and so, often, are Wengers and Raffas. But to be fair to
Fergie, his recent comments about the age of the Chelsea squad seems to
have been reported slightly differently in the media than what was said.
Well, whatever happened ,it was enough to piss him off so much he has
now refused interviews.

Apart from that, wasn't that £7m Chelsea paid for Deco the buy of the
closed season? He is 30, but has a few good years left in him, and from
what I have seen, was a bargain for them. Deco for 7 or Barry for the 18
Raffa was willing to pay? Different types, but no race for me.

Shows that there are still good buys around if you know where to look.

I guess you could use a play on words with "buy" but Geovanni wins hands
down, cost fuck all.

True Ren. You cannot beat sweet FA and you have to allow for how much
they are being paid, which at Chelsea always seems to be top dollar.
