REDS ACE MAKES EURO 2008 SELECT BUT NO RONALDO
Fernando Torres has been named in UEFA's squad of Euro 2008 – but there
is no place for Man Utd winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

El Nino is one of four forwards in the 23-man select alongside
international teammate David Villa and Russia's Andrei Arshavin and
Dmitri Pavlyuchenko.

UEFA technical director Andy Roxburgh explained: "Clearly Torres is a
match-winner. He's a fantastic front player – very fast, powerful, brave
– and he's a finisher. His movement is excellent as well.

"To say anyone is the best player in the world is a difficult one, but
he is one of the big talents in European football."

On Ronaldo's absence, Roxburgh added: "This is entirely about the
tournament and not about reputations or how well you started.

The UEFA select squad in full is:

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Iker Casillas (Spain), Edwin van
der Sar (Netherlands).

Defenders: Bosingwa (Portugal), Philipp Lahm (Germany), Carlos Marchena
(Spain), Pepe (Portugal), Carles Puyol (Spain), Yuri Zhirkov (Russia).

Midfielders: Hamit Altıntop (Turkey), Luka Modric (Croatia), Marcos
Senna (Spain), Xavi Hernández (Spain), Konstantin Zyryanov (Russia),
Michael Ballack (Germany), Cesc Fàbregas (Spain), Andrés Iniesta
(Spain), Lukas Podolski (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands).

Forwards: Andrei Arshavin (Russia), Roman Pavlyuchenko (Russia),
Fernando Torres (Spain), David Villa (Spain).

Re: REDS ACE MAKES EURO 2008 SELECT BUT NO RONALDO
Would this be the same Andy Roxburgh who once managed Scotland and took them
to such dizzy heights of footballing success? He'll know a world-class
footballer when he sees one, then.

Watch Torres go next season now that everyone's got him sussed. Be lucky if
the Dago cunt gets a dozen goals.
