Gretna
Is there anything to stop Celtic, or Rangers, taking over Gretna and
puting on the reserve teams? The Gretna name and colour will stay all
that will change is that Celtic or Rangers will own them.

I dont think the SPL would allow that, imagine thier embarressment if they
finished third in the SPL.

I'm sure that one of the Old Firm could do a deal with a club like Gretna
that would involve an agreed yearly investment.

EG Rangers or Celtic could agree to invest 1M a year, play a pre-season
friendly each year; in exchange for a deal that would see the big club's
players moving freely on a loan basis to the smaller club. Also the big club
would have first dabs on any transfers from the smaller club (ie If Gretna
accepted a bid from any club for a player then they would have to accept an
equal offer from their 'parent' club.)

I know this kind of arrangement is available in FootballManager08 and is
based on the parent/feeder club rules that ARE allowed within UEFA rules.

If you start a new season in FM08 then Rangers already have an associative
deal with Linfield FC. Anyone know if this is based on an actual tie we DO
have with them?

I think there is some rule about people not being allowed to own more than
one football club that plays in the same competition.

Rangers and Gretna both play in the League and Scottish Cups, and possibly
the UEFA cup.

Did something not come up with Hearts and Romanov? Romanov reportedly
has influence over no less than half of the clubs in the A Lyga
(Lithuanian Football Premier League)

It would make the SPL even more farcical than it already is

You couldn't have that. I would like to see the bigger clubs reserves
playing in the lower divisions, as they do in some other countries, but I
don't like the 'nursery club' idea.

IIRC today is the day the SFL meet and will decide whether Gretna is a
going concern and goes into Div 1 or Div 3.

We've still got the Rangers and their fans to do that for us.
