Re: Cheer up Walter smith
Rangers forward Ronald de Boer has branded Old Firm rivals Celtic moaners
for protesting over fixture congestion.
I listened to and watched that Rangers game the other night
Was not impressed
Why Rangers supporters pay to watch that rubbish is beyond me
The fans were singing the Sash and all the other songs
I wonder what religion is of each member of the Rangers Team.

Smith seem's very upset by Peter Lawwell's comments, maybe he should stop
moaning and focus on playing all those games he needs to catch up. Also what
does Old Watty mean by

"What bothers me most is that the SPL have assented to every request that
has been made by Celtic..."

What an embarassment! Almost reminiscent of Keegan losing the plot when
Fergie wound him up a few years ago. I wonder what would happen if he was
really put under pressure with a defeat at the weekend - unfortunately can't
see that happening again though.

I always thought fairly highly of WS in terms of his media personna and the
way he handled himself with integrity. But the way he walked out on Scotland
and then showed hypocrisy over a couple of issues shows him up in a
different light. Someone remind me about those issues again, I think one had
to do with Scott Brown and the other was related to call-offs from the
Scotland squad. Could be wrong though.

Thought WS insisted that Rangers would not be looking for an extension and
that they would leave it up to the SPL !!!!

That was only about 3 weks ago too!

"But can I just clarify no-one from Rangers has ever asked the SPL to extend
the season and we will not ask them to extend the season."
Walter three weeks ago...

"I thought it was a reasonably simple request to extend the season but maybe
I was being naive."
Walter yesterday...

A complete contradiction or what...Scotland's shame have lost the plot.

The Keegan analogy is apposite since he's went for Peter Lawwell like a
rabid dog. Clearly Lawwell is protecting his own. I'd expect Rangers to
state their case too, although they denied they would. But for a football
manager to publicly question Lawwell's honesty on this, does sound like WS
has lost it.

Is this the one where he contradicted himself while Scotland manager.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/hibernian/6204818.stm

I thought Smith did alright in the media and also had some good achievements
in the game. But he left Scotland high and dry, after telling players to
stick to their contracts. Now he's lost it over the league extension.
Scotland's shame are feeling the pressure.

Smith is spot on when he says Lawell should just admit he wants Rangers to
play as many games in a week as possible, since that benefits his side.
Nowt wrong with that, but he could at least be honest about it. All this
guff about "integrity" is just that - guff.

Lets be real about this , both Lawell and WS look pretty silly over this at
the moment!

While winning what will be a shit more than our closest rivals.

Gotta love a Mercurial Madcap Genius manager such as Smith.... I mean
imagine questioning the suggestions that his team play 4 games in 8 days ...
he really is a total nutjob, gotta love that... ;-)

I think he has tried to do the PC thing but should have either kept quiet or
just said he feels it would give Rangers an unfair advantage.Rangers want
extra time which would give them an advantage, and Celtic dont want that for
the same reason.....nothing unusual with that ! And WS should have kept
quiet too instead of making himself look just as stupid.Only talking that
needs to be done is on the pitch. If Celtic lose on sunday i bet there wont
be much more talk about extensions.

Is there a precedent for a team in Scotland playing four games in a week?

I don't know the answer to that one but do you think it's reasonable to ask
a team to do so?

I think it probably has gone on in the past, so I'll answer that question
for you. Don't have any evidence right enough, so please don't badger me in
that tedious style you so frequently adopt.

Regarding your question, I suppose it might be hard for some professional
footballers to play four games in a week. They are accustomed to playing
three games in a week. An extra 90 mins might seem like alot of additional
work. They might not be used to it. Indeed they might not cope.

</cue another boring long thread with Angof saying ad infinitum "answer the
question ya cunt/grow some balls/where's the YouTube evidence">

Must admit this has got me puzzled - he clearly said "no one at Rangers has
asked" then clearly says "it was a simple request"

Can't remember it happenening in Scotland but apparentley the Scottish
league season has been extended 24 times since the war. If the years I saw
quoted are correct, that included seven of your NIAR seasons.

Well it was a reasonable and pretty straight forward question and you gave
an interesting answer. Trouble is I don't know if it's a yes or no as you
forgot that bit. Personally I think it's unreasonable but I agree with
Walter Smith and don't blame Lawwell and co for wanting that to happen.
