If you kill in the name of the religion, then of course I blame the
religion.

Keep in mind that "in the name of" means "in the name of whilst
following the beliefs of that religion". In that case, then yes, I
certainly blame the religion.

If someone kills and says they did it for their religion but were
actually going AGAINST the beliefs of that religion, then no, I don't
blame the religion. The killer was a fruit loop. Although you could
say the religion failed at teaching its beliefs properly on that
individual.
