I agree there's a huge difference, but I don't think it's a fair
comparison. In one example you're expecting the player to do the
umpiring, and in the other you're letting the umpire do the umpiring.
It shouldn't be up to players to umpire. Even if they know they've hit
or missed it.
I don't think a professional player should be expected to walk.
On the other hand, I DO think it's cheating when they say "no, i
didn't hit it" (or gesture as such, as Symonds did in this case). That
is effectively lying, and therefore cheating.
