Betting on Australian 2007 Elections
Portlandbet is excited to announce that betting is open on all 150
seats to be contested in the upcoming federal election as well as on
which party will form government after the votes have been cast and
counted. This is the first time such a complete coverage of an
election has been offered in Australia.

Election betting has become increasingly popular in Australia with
over $4 million bet on the 2004 Australian federal election. There has
also been an increasing reliance by the media on betting markets as
election predictors. Money talks and the market listens. Essentially
the bets made are seen as a more accurate representation of public
sentiment than the answers given in a random poll.

Bookmakers also noted a marked increase in the popularity of
individual seat betting with a number of bookies offering markets on a
limited number of hand-picked seats. This time around, Portlandbet
will offer the full gambit with every seat open and available for
betting.

The way the Portlandbet team sees it, the Coalition will have just a
little too much for the ALP. Their current margin looks too much of a
task for Kevin Rudd to overcome and John Howard looks set to be
returned as Prime Minister, albeit with a reduced majority. According
to Portlandbet calculations, the Coalition will win 77 seats and the
ALP will take 71 with 2 seats remaining in the control of
independents.

That is, of course, only the opinion of the Portlandbet team. If you
fancy we are wrong, get online or get to the phone and put your money
where your mouth is. Whether it be a small interest on the seat you
live in or a wager against the politician you loathe the most,
Portlandbet is here for your election betting needs.
