I wonder what proportion these incidents make up of the overall number of
times weapons are carried routinely.

I'd expect the cop concerned to get a right bollocking.
Perhaps a freedom of information request about the number of right
bollockings being given in a year?

Why ? if a member of the public loses of misplaces his lawfully owned fire
arm the police ALWAYS prosecute him to the max of the law, The Copette
should be in a cell on remand for fire arms offences.

Maybe they should provide suitable holsters so that the gun does not
have to be removed while using the toilet.

I owned a Star 9mm Parrabellum when I lived in South Africa. It went
everywhere I went. I never once left it behind or forgot I had it. It
is not a thing you forget. The stupid "Copette" should be banned from
possessing or of being anywhere firearms are involved, sacked and
jailed. Lucky for her it was a responsible member of the public that
found her gun and not a Jamaican Gang member or other such hoodlum.

Well the only ones that ever make the news are the ones when the gun is
handed to the press by the person who finds it.
So we must assume a number of them remain in people's houses or on the
streets.

Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland

All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach

Well no.
I knew someone who managed to lose a shotgun through gross negligence, he
left it in a tent and went drinking.
The cops just took the details over the phone and told him to forget about
it...
