TORONTO: The provincial elections in Ontario will be held on October
10, 2007. The clock has started ticking and the countdown begun.
Politicians are using their trick cards to attract and impress people
and gain their trust and confidence.
Some make promises and commitments and paint a beautiful picture of
their party manifesto and worst picture of the ruler's performance,
while others try to re-assure people that if re-elected they will do
much better.
Canadians understand the gimmicks and dirty tricks of politics very
well but want only leaders who are honest, dedicated, committed,
believe in actions and become a strong voice of the people. They judge
the leaders by character, deeds, contribution and the overall track
record.
Those who just keep criticizing and attacking others instead of
practically promoting and protecting the interests of the people can
never be trusted. In reality, they promote their vested interests and
as a result the people, community and the country suffer. This must
never be allowed in the larger national interests.
MEDIA: The media plays an important role in the search for true
leadership for all levels---federal, provincial, municipal and
community. With this objective in mind, the team of English website
www.originpakistan.com (www.meraraabta.com), Aamir Khawaja, owner of
the prestigious website, and Javed Zaheer, Award Winner Freelance
Journalist and Honorary Media Consultant of www.originpakistan.com
(www.meraraabta.com), conducted exclusive interviews and coverage of
distinguished personalities including Premier of Ontario Dalton
McGuinty, Leader of the Opposition in Ontario, John Tory, and ex-
Consul General of Pakistan in Toronto, Ghalib Iqbal.
It is really difficult to find true political leadership---because of
the gimmicks and dirty tricks of politics. This task becomes tougher
when the commitment is to trace and promote the best possible ones.
Despite all odds, www.originpakistan.com (www.meraraabta.com), an
effective, influential and powerful platform of the South Asian media
of Pakistani origin, keeps the search on.
One of the Toughest Contests of the elections is in the Don Valley
West area--- between John Tory, Conservative MPP and Leader of the
Opposition in Ontario, and Kathleen Wynne, Liberal MPP and Education
Minister.
We have already posted exclusive interview of John Tory in the
`Distinguished Personality' segment of www.originpakistan.com
(www.meraraabta.com). Now it was the turn of Kathleen Wynne.
Mazhar Shafiq, a Canadian of Pakistani origin and a very close and
important member of Kathleen Wynne's team, arranged the exclusive
interview at the election office. The www.originpakistan.com
(www.meraraabta.com) team comprised Aamir Khawaja and Javed Zaheer.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of the interview was to bring leaders and
people closer through better understanding and proper awareness.
Leaders who are considered role model for the society and community
are chosen for inspiration. The purpose is also to engage the
community with the mainstream and to apprise the leaders about the
issues.
The interview was conducted by Aamir Khawaja in the best professional
manner while I (Javed Zaheer) followed my usual professional
approach---Listen, Observe and Learn (LOL).
Readers could also hear the exclusive interview in the audio
presentation which has been made part of this script presentation at
www.originpakistan.com (www.meraraabta.com). Both the script and the
audio presentations are in different formats but in the same
framework. This was done in order to maintain the high quality,
standard and flow beauty of the interview discussion and script
expression.
Frankly speaking, I got lost in the very interesting and informative
exclusive interview. As the interview steadily progressed, the
greatness and goodness of this charismatic lady, powerful and true
leader of the people and role model of the society, Kathleen Wynne,
began to impress us.
What impressed me the most was that in the nearly one hour interview
Kathleen Wynne never wasted her precious time on attacks on and mere
criticism of the opposition or John Tory. She only spoke against when
necessarily needed to defend the government, her policies and the
people. This is one of the best qualities of a great and true leader.
QUESTIONS: Handsome, young and energetic Aamir Khawaja put very
selective, important and to the point questions before Kathleen Wynne
including:
* One of the most important issues of the election---funding for faith-
based
schools.
* Waiting time in hospitals.
* Traffic blocks and cut in transit facilities.
* Role of the Federal Government in helping build Ontario and Canada.
* Dependency on foreign investment and its impact on Canada during
tough time
and in case of pullout of the investment.
* Approach towards basic and burning issues of the community and
immigrants.
* Job opportunities and adjustment facilities for newcomers, who are
mostly
highly qualified, skilled and recognized professionals with very
valuable, rich
and tremendous experiences in their respective fields.
* Kathleen's contributions as an MPP and role model of the people,
community
and the society.
Kathleen too was impressed and answered the questions very
confidently. The notably important thing was that she never got
confused and said `Blah, Blah, Blah' but explained the points very
clearly and sensibly, based on facts and realities.
Kathleen Wynne praised the contributions, intelligentsia and calibre
of the Pakistani media and Canadians of Pakistani origin. Again,
Mazhar Shafiq deserves credit for his efforts in the right direction
and for helping www.originpakistan.com (www.meraraabta.com) improve
and build a very good image of the Pakistani and Muslim communities.
BURNING ISSUES: Aamir Khawaja (AK): What do you say about the coming
elections and the burning issues?
With less concern about herself and her political career and more
concern about the people and the province, Kathleen Wynne (KW)
instantly responded: "As regards the elections and Ontario, first of
all we have to decide what kind of governance or what kind of Ontario
we want. Do we want an Ontario that believes in public service and
public institutions or do we want an Ontario that believes in private
institutions, private healthcare and private education?
Kathleen Wynne said: "Do we want an Ontario that focuses on the
elderly, the vulnerable and the people living in poverty and provides
services for those people or do we want a government that cuts those
services in order to give a tax break to people and then expects the
private sector to deliver those services and so really does not
focuses on deserving people?
"Without a strong Ontario, Canada can never be strong. First of all,
this fact needs to be acknowledged and accepted. Along with Alberta,
Ontario is also a giant. The Federal Government must realize and play
its important role as a major player. Unfortunately, this is not
happening with the Conservatives in power.
"This is why we need a Liberal Federal Government with whom we can
have serious, open and positive collaborative discussions and
coordination. We need a Federal Government which is prepared to pay
attention and listen to the provinces and work together for
improvements and in the building process. This is extremely essential
for making Canada really strong and very powerful in all respect."
GOAL: Kathleen Wynne stated: "Premier of Ontario Dalton McGuinty is a
very powerful voice of the people. He is doing his best for Ontario.
He has played a very strong role on the national front. To make
Ontario strong, giant and a leader has been our role and goal.
"I believe that in 2007 in the most diverse city (Toronto) and
province (Ontario) of the world, we have to make a decision as to how
we are going to use our diversity to make our province, Ontario,
stronger. Ontario must have a strong economy to make and keep Canada
strong.
"Stephen Harper must understand this and that without Ontario's
wealth Canada suffers. Ontario needs to have both strong social and
economic fabrics. All the transfer payments to other provinces come
from Alberta and Ontario."
KW said: "This is why Premier Dalton McGuinty talks about connections
in the economy and in business between Pakistan and Ontario, India and
Ontario and China and Ontario. This is because we have people from so
many backgrounds. We should be able to use those connections. This is
why he visited Pakistan, India and China. He wants to leverage those
connections. In the same way, I want to leverage the values system
with values that people bring from all over the world."
JOB ISSUES: When Aamir asked about job issues in Ontario and its
seriousness like less job opportunities and chances of more cut jobs
due to auto industry manufacturing plants closures, which could result
in depression:
Kathleen Wynne said: "Since 2003, we as the government or the strong
economy have created 300,000 net new jobs. We have leveraged as a
government with government investment of $7 billion in investment plan
that has created 7000 new jobs in the auto sector. We have increased
government involvement particularly in the manufacturing and auto
sectors.
"We have put another $650 million on the table for the Green
Technology. Let me make it clear that our future is in two things---
Firstly, innovation and high participation in post-secondary
education. Fortunately, we have the potential in Ontario to be smart,
innovative and creative. Our education system attracts many people to
this province and has the potential to achieve the set goals.
"Secondly, green technology and green industries. There is a plan in
place and resources available for the industries. The plan includes
incentives for industries to go green and develop green technology for
our education sector to educate green engineers and people who
understand green technology. That is the future I see."
"The plan for green technology is the result of a new understanding
of how quickly we can scale back from what has happened in the
industrialized countries, which is a huge destructive footprint on
mother earth. So plan and resources are both available to implement
green technology."
CONCERN: Kathleen Wynne said: "We can never compete with India and
China as regards cheap labour. We just don't have the population. We
are only millions as compared to their billions. We must understand
and accept this reality.
"Also, the fact is that our economy is strong because of new jobs and
strong dollar. We have a strong economy in relation to the United
States. Unfortunately, it damages us in terms of our manufacturing
base. That is a struggle for our government and the governments to
come.
"Our mining industry is very strong and we have to recognize that as
our strength. On the other hand, we have to support our agriculture
industry. There are more issues around our forestry industry.
"The fundamental question is how much government involvement we are
willing to tolerate as a society. We believe in government involvement
with the private sector and not everything being in the public sector.
"We believe in robust involvement of the public sector in private
industry in order to support the brilliance and ingenuity of the
private sector."
Aamir Khawaja: United States is our major trading partner and the
single buyer with about 77 percent of Canada's exports going there.
What will happen when we face tough time and the foreign investment is
pulled out?
Kathleen Wynne stated: "I have very strong opinions on this but since
this is not my area I cannot officially comment on it. My counterpart,
John Godfrey, MP, can speak on this issue.
"Regarding foreign investment, since you asked this very important
question I can say this that first of all we must not put all eggs in
one basket. We need to have trading relations and policies that would
be in our interest globally.
"Secondly, we need to clarify the line between protectionism and
robust economy. We need to have a balance between those two things. We
need to protect Canadian jobs while strengthening the economy. The
Liberal philosophy at this point is very balanced and clear in this
connection."
TRANSIT ISSUE: When Aamir pointed towards the traffic blocks and the
fear that in the days to come transit services are expected to be cut
due to budget deficit:
Kathleen Wynne said: "I can only say in the strongest terms possible
that I disagree with any move that would cut public transit in the GTA
at this point. I categorically disagree with cutting public transport
facilities. Instead we should be expanding our public transport
network.
"Our government has already put billions of dollars in the public
transport sector in Toronto and the GTA. We also have a plan to invest
$11 billion in public transport around the entire GTA. There is a $17
billion project out of which the Federal Government's share is $6
billion. We have still not received their share."
In terms of the budget shortfall that the municipal government is
facing right now, Kathleen Wynne said: "We have invested as a province
to help as much as possible. The city did not have the money before
2003 that it has right now. There is ongoing discussion about
uploading more services. We have already uploaded many services
including public health, put 2 cents on the gas tax and gave $217
million for the ODSP plan."
Kathleen said: "It is now for the citizens to decide whether they
want to have a visionary plan for this city and a plan that we all
will have to pay for i.e. provincial or city government or whether we
want to have a small and decreasing vision.
"I believe that the solution is in working together. We continue as a
province to invest in the city. The city should decide what the
revenue tool is going to be used that will be constructive. The City
of Toronto Act did give the city of Toronto the revenue tools that it
asked for to move that cost off the property tax base.
"The city will have to decide what it is going to use as a revenue
tool on top of the money that the provincial government puts for it.
It cannot be property taxes that pay for the new or much bigger
services. There is no large city in the world that pays for all of
infrastructure and all of its operations out of the property taxes. It
is just not possible.
"The Federal Government has to become a major or much bigger player
and partner in terms of share. It needs to play a larger role in the
city building as well. I think this is the solution."
When Aamir Khawaja asked: The provincial government has $2 billion
surplus then why it can't support the Toronto city municipal?
IRRESPONSIBLE PATH: Kathleen Wynne said: "First of all that money is
not at all structural surplus. We recognize that we can't afford to
upload $900 million that was cost downloaded on to the municipalities.
"We are not going to take any irresponsible path. John Tory wants us
to assume surplus, build that into a planning and then end up in a
deficit. That's what Mike Harris and Ernie Eves did and left for us a
$6 billion deficit when we came into the office."
Aamir Khawaja: Tell us about Mike Colle's resignation and the scandal
issue. What affect it will have on the elections?
Kathleen Wynne said: "I think questions will be raised about it. The
Conservatives want to make a big issue out of it. We have acknowledged
as a government that mistakes were made. The process was not good. Now
new processes are being put in place.
"What I maintain is that Mike Colle's intention was good and was meant
to promote sports that were not traditionally strong in Ontario. He
wanted to acknowledge this fact. That was indeed a terrific intention.
We will continue to look at ways to support our growing immigrant
population. Once we have a good process in place we will continue to
advance.
"Unfortunately, cricket was neglected and not funded by the previous
government. It is a growing and popular game which needs attention and
investment. As regards Mike Colle, he is a fine man. I will apologize
for the bad process but will never apologize for the funding with good
intention."
TOUGH CHALLENGES: When Aamir Khawaja asked about the challenges
faced in the contest against John Tory:
Kathleen Wynne said: "I admit that the challenge is very tough. I take
nothing for granted. It is a very tough battle. I need every single
vote. I could even win or lose by one vote. This is why people must
come out and vote. They must understand the importance of votes. If
they want a leader and a member who cares about the values system then
they should use their votes properly.
"I am prepared to face the challenges and John Tory. I believe that my
deeds are there to speak for me and support me. I don't believe in
polls but in doors. I went to thousands of doors since I was elected,
particularly in the last few months.
"From that experience, I can tell you that people are happy that now
we have more resources, there were no teachers strike, the schools are
open for community use. This summer all the schools, particularly in
Thorncliffe Park Drive and Flemingdon Park, were open. In fact all 110
plus schools in the city were open because our ministry put money into
the system to keep those schools open for community use.
"All of the initiatives are very good and people know that in this
election they will focus on these initiatives and say that this
government has taken us into a very good direction and they deserve
another four years to continue those initiatives. This is why despite
the tough challenges, I expect Liberal majority in the election."
SAFETY ISSUE: When Kathleen's attention was drawn to the community
safety issue, she said: "Community safety in the Don Valley West,
particularly Thorncliffe Park Drive locality, is a huge issue. We need
to involve the City Councillor to solve the issues and take part in
the discussions.
"Unfortunately, the City Councillor is not always present. He needs to
pay very close attention on what is going on in the community. He is
the one who is close to tenants associations and can work with them."
Kathleen Wynne said: "I set up a Community Safety Round Table even
long before John Tory came to Flemingdon Park area. I set up the round
table with the police, area leaders of the organizations, community
members and members from the Toronto Community Housing to know as to
how we can work with each other.
"I started this with the understanding that communities create
community safety. The government does not create community safety. I
believe in people who can work with community groups. They must be
hired or brought forward to work with young children to give them
something to do, particularly after school or on weekends.
"That is the spirit for community work. I have been doing this in the
community since I was elected. People must be brought forward to meet
each other and to create opportunities. There is a need to do such
type of work."
Kathleen said: "The Don Valley West is one of the most intelligent
riding in Ontario. I know this very well. When I go to doors, I find
them educated, aware and had taken part in the political process. I
have one of the most wonderful political discussions with them. I have
a translator with me who helps me in the discussions. So, I am very
well aware about the people, their thinking, attitude and approach.
"One thing is clear. Political leadership comes with involvement in
the community. We must find strength in the community and build on
that strength. That's why I set up the Community Safety Round Table.
It helps create awareness and understanding in a proper way. That's
what I have been doing and would continue to do.
"It's easy to make a speech about community safety but not easy to
ensure it. I understand what is needed in Flemingdon Park. We worked
with the school board and my partner Jane to help improve the area
particularly for the kids.
"I have a lot of faith in the people and my team. I know how and how
hard they work. If we are moving in the right direction then people
would be convinced and support."
FAITH-BASED SCHOOLS: When Aamir asked about one of the most important
issues of funding for private religious schools, which is a vital
issue in the elections:
Kathleen Wynne said: "I think in Ontario today we have to decide
whether we want to move forward Ontario as a model of inclusion for
the world that brings all of our children together and makes us strong
by having our diversity in our public schools where we develop common
values or do we want an Ontario that is going to be divided.
"If divided in schools of different faiths, the children will suffer.
Such schools will develop separate values system and that to me is the
wrong way to go.
Kathleen stated: "In clearest terms, John Tory's policy on this issue
will create division instead of inclusion and as a result create more
ethnic divisions. John Tory's focus and push on planning for religious
schools is not a good idea for Ontario as a whole. The students are
not going to be equipped enough to be integrated into the mainstream.
"The other reality other than social implication is that financially
we cannot afford to put millions in different religious schools.
"Personally I don't have a problem with private religious schools. We
have private religious schools in Ontario for years. Only 2 percent of
our children are in private religious schools while 95 percent are in
the public funded schools."
"We are doing a lot for education. We want to spend $400 million and
extend pre-school. We want to have a full-day pre-school program.
Right now we find a half-day kindergarten (JK & SK) program. This way
the children are going to do much better. They will get a more
consistent learning opportunity. This is how I want to spend the
money."
"I want to have a child who speaks Pushtu as a first language in KG
for full day. We want him to keep speaking Pushtu at home because that
is very important but I want them to learn English and French as well
so that they progress in school and get what they need."
"We have much to learn from people who just arrived here and are in
the first generation. The only way we are going to learn from each
other is if our children learn from each other. Our children are
actually pioneers of the new society and will help us. They should get
to know each other. It is much easier for our children to sit beside
each other in our schools. Therefore, it is important that they
understand each other."
SENSE: Kathleen Wynne: "People come from different countries to start
and make a new life. Of course they need to connect, especially if
they don't speak English right away. They need to connect with people
who can help translate for them.
"It makes some sense that they settle at a place where they know the
people from the country or region of their origin or go to a mosque,
church or synagogue that is close by or familiar to them. It
definitely makes sense that this is an initial settlement point.
"What I believe is that once that first generation has created a
vibrant community and culture in the shape of restaurants, shops,
stores, businesses, etc. and are ready and feel comfortable to move
out of their community, they should move to Northern, Eastern or South
Western Ontario.
"In those places there may not be so many people from their background
but I believe that they will find a society that will welcome them.
"It is a good thing for a city like Toronto, a city of neighbourhood,
that it has a rich vibrant culture. There is nowhere in the world that
I have to go for dinner because in Toronto you can go anywhere in the
world and still stay in Toronto."
Kathleen Wynne: "When I am re-elected on October 10, 2007, one of the
first things I want to do is to work with the Ministry of Bureaucrat.
I have already started this work even before the election was called.
SCHOOL BOARDS: "There are some school boards which have religious
accommodation policy. They have a policy that helps understand the
practice of different religions and to provide space for worship e.g.
five times and Friday prayers for Muslims in the schools. There are
many school boards that don't have such policy.
"So, we need to bring this subject, issue and discussion in all the 72
school boards in Ontario to make sure there is religious accommodation
in all areas. The discussion is important to end curiosity due to lack
of familiarity. For this and all other issues you and I need to work
together.
"If John Tory succeeds in separating the children then that discussion
will never take place. Then the expectation will be different. People
of different faiths will have different schools. That's not what I
want. I want everyone in Ontario to have the expectation that our
schools will be in cohesion."
WAITING TIME: Regarding waiting time, Kathleen Wynne said: "The
waiting time issue is definitely an ongoing discussion. This issue
will remain a discussion in many elections. I cannot deceive people by
giving excuses. There is more work to be done on emergency rooms wait.
It is a very complex issue. It is associated with how many family
doctors we have, how the family doctors are organized with nurse
practitioners, the community health centres availability, etc. If we
put more money into these it will have impact on emergency rooms wait
time.
"Also, when we talk about wait times then we are talking about wait
times in particular areas like cardiac surgery, cancer surgery,
cataracts, MRI, hip and knee replacements, etc. I don't think the time
has been reached when we can say OK there is no wait time. It's a game
of inches and we have to continue to improve the waiting times.
"The biggest challenge we have is people of my age are aging. We are
coming into the health centres because our hips and knees are going.
This is one of the reasons why I try to remain healthy."
Kathleen said: "I don't want to be a liability on the healthcare
system. I am 54 and know that I am going to be a burden on the system.
That's why I am trying to be as little burden as possible.
"To remain healthy, everybody can do something like swim and walk.
Walking is a huge issue and that's why our plan includes a $700
million investment for support program for seniors to help them stay
at home and healthy.
"Part of that investment is for community support to organize walking
groups in the seniors community. This preventive care will help us
keep out of the healthcare system for as long as possible. There is a
lot we can do to keep ourselves at home and healthy."
RECORD HOLDER: Kathleen Wynne, at 17 years, set the Georgian Bay
Regional record in the 440 yard dash of 63.3 seconds, a record that
will never be broken because the next year Canada went metric and the
440 yards became the 400 metres.
Kathleen says: "I was not a brilliant but an adequate athletic. I
worked very hard that year, when I was in Grade-12, to beat others. So
the record didn't come easily to me. There is a lot to learn when you
work hard for something, particularly when you are not necessarily
gifted in the first place but you have enough talent and perseverance
as well that you can overcome the odds.
"I was a runner and loved athlete and feel strongly about being
healthy. I still try to run most mornings because now I don't have the
opportunity to run every morning. I try to run and eat well. But this
is not a small thing in politics because the hours are difficult and
it becomes very hard to have a meal or sit down with your family.
"I have to be very careful not to eat food that can slow me down.
Also, I make sure that I get enough sleep. I know that if I am not
healthy and energetic then I cannot do the job like the way it should
be done.
"That is a carryover from my youth. I have kept this practice to keep
myself healthy and energetic. I grew up in a family where it is very
important to be physically healthy. My 81 years old father still walks
everyday. That training and experience is helping me greatly in
preparation for the provincial elections.
BLESSING: Kathleen Wynne said: "As a politician, it becomes difficult
for me to balance work and family. I came to electoral politics when
my children were grown up. That was a blessing in disguise. I was a
full-time mother for a number of years. I had three children in four
years and it would have been very difficult to manage at that time.
"It is important we recognize the fact that politics have to
accommodate people at different times in their lives. Some people
enter politics when they are young and that is a wonderful thing too
because we need young people in politics.
"But there are some of us who bring different life experiences to
politics and we must understand that it is valuable too. My experience
of being a mother who raised three children, a volunteer in the
community and a part-time worker is indeed a valuable experience.
"Based on my experiences, I know what it is like to be a young mother
trying to raise her children and what it is like to struggle as a
young parent with not a lot of earning.
Kathleen Wynne said: "When I sit at the Cabinet table, I know many
things including exactly what it is like to be in a school. I know how
the parents struggle to make sure that their children get everything
they need. It is important for a politician to bring their whole life
experience to the table when they run for office."
To Aamir Khawaja's question about how being a mother and an education
minister help her to understand the schooling system and how she can
provide better education:
Kathleen said: "Being a mother helps me to understand human nature. It
helps me to understand how people develop, how their world views
develop, the kinds of behaviour the children display or either their
behaviour gets changed or corrected. There is a whole issue of
balancing, juggling and listening.
"Mothers can listen to all their children and hold their thoughts
while the children are doing something else. When they come back then
the mother picks up the trail. The mother or the parents at home
weaves the family together. That is a very challenging organizational
feat."
TENACIOUS FIGHTER: From the facts about her and her deeds and a visit
to her website www.kathleenwynne.ca (kathleen@kathleenwynne.ca),
Kathleen Wynne always proved herself as a tenacious fighter with an
unshakeable determination when she sets out to do something.
No wonder, Premier of Ontario Dalton McGuinty came forward to
personally praise and strongly support her by announcing openly and
loudly at the Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute (MGCI) in Don Valley
West recently: "Kathleen Wynne is pride and power of the people, his
cabinet and the Liberal party. She is a strong and true leader and
deserves four more years to serve the people and the party. For this
and to achieve the goals, Win with Wynne."
Also, no wonder, this very gentle but terrific lady faces the
Conservative Giant and Leader of the Opposition in Ontario, John Tory,
who is already flexing muscles and showing his power to create his
impression on the people of Don Valley West.
Kathleen has been active in public life for more than a decade now.
She has always been involved in her community and in her kids' school,
but she precisely remembers what changed her from community worker to
public activist and advocate.
She was first elected MPP for Don Valley West in October, 2003. Before
joining Cabinet in 2006 as the Minister of Education, Kathleen Wynne
served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Training,
Colleges and Universities, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of
Education, Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Community Affairs Policy
and Chair of the Liberal Women's Caucus.
Kathleen Wynne also served as Public School Trustee for Ward 8, was
the Founder of the Metro Parent Network, was a founding member of
Citizens for Local Democracy and had served on the board of P.O.I.N.T.
Kathleen belongs to the brilliant intellectual class and is highly
educated. She did masters in two subjects---Masters in Linguistics
from the University of Toronto and Masters in Adult Education from the
Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).She also completed
mediation training at Harvard University. Her career focus has been in
education and mediation.
Personality and leader of a class, Kathleen Wynne, MPP, has three
grown children---Chris, Jessie and Maggie---who are living, working
and studying in Ontario.
Kathleen has lived in North Toronto for over 25 years, where she and
her partner Jane are active in the community. Her 81 years old dad,
John Wynne, who was a small town doctor, is still very much active. He
helps her in canvassing.
After completion of her studies, Kathleen settled down to raise her
family. As a full-time mom, she learned first-hand the basics of
community politics---how a school holds a neighbourhood together and
how people work together to make sure their children's needs are met.
CARING: Kathleen Wynne cares deeply about helping people reach their
full potential. She believes everyone has value to contribute to our
community. She brings to her public office her integrity, intelligence
