A pair of 8-year-olds armed with baseball bats are being credited with stopping
a man who had put a gun into a womans face and threatened to kill her.
Charles Arby Bradley, 29, 819 NE 15th Terrace, was arrested and charged with
armed burglary, battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated
battery causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and
obstructing justice. Bail was set at $225,000 after he was booked into the
Alachua County Jail early Monday.
The situation unfolded over two days, according to Gainesville Police Officer
Tony R. Ferro, and appeared to be the result of Bradleys efforts to resume a
relationship with a former girlfriend with whom he has a child.
The woman told police that each time she rebuffed his attempts to reconcile, he
threatened her with violence.
The first incident happened on Friday when Bradley reportedly confronted the
woman to argue about their broken relationship.
The woman told police she tried to get away from Bradley in her car but he got
into the car through the passenger window and she was driving away.
In the arrest report, Ferro wrote that Bradley forced the vehicle into park and
pulled a chunk of hair from the victims head.
The second incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. as the woman was leaving her
home in the 1400 block of SE 2nd Ave. with her 8-year-old son and his 8-year old
friend.
The woman and the boys told police that Bradley hit the woman on the back of the
head with a handgun inside a black sock, then took the gun out of the sock.
Ferro wrote in his report that while the children watched, Bradley forced the
handgun in the face of the victim, told her to open her mouth and threatened to
kill the victim.
The woman and the children told police that Bradley said to the woman: If you
go to the police, I will kill you.
The woman and the children told police that Bradley left the area when the two
8-year-old witnesses attacked the defendant with baseball bats, which stopped
the attack.
The woman drove the the police department to report the incident.
