Matt O'Connor
Matt O'Connor, the English Democrats' candidate for Mayor, has
withdrawn from the race, it was announced yesterday... But what does
this actually mean? I presume his name will still be on the ballot
paper. Would I be right in thinking that his votes will still be
counted as normal and were he to win (OK, so that's not going to
happen), he'd be elected as normal and then have to stand down if he
still wanted to...?

Yes - not "will be" but "already is".

Yes of course they will.

Yes of course he would.

If elected, he could resign just as any other elected person can
resign.
