Madoff only stole his perceived commission.
As the journalist asked: what happened to all the money Madoff
stole - it can't just have dissapeared ? It went to the lucky-clowns
who boosted the pyramid, via their TRUE reports of exceptional
returns. What a beautiful business model !!

In contrast the house-mortgage-looters *have* spent their credit
on beer, loose-women, newer TVs and advancing obesity.

Recently a university proffesor of <african americam advancement>
studies was telling about still unjustly unequal *outcomes* of eg.
house ownership for his people. Perhaps the program was taped
before it was revealed that the golbal economic crisis [much more
coming folks] was cause by legislation incentivising the giving of
mortgages to persons who couldn't afford them. The professor
wasn't asking for opportunities for his people, but for outcomes !

Madoff's illusion [or perhaps not] of power and competence,
with the accomanying respect/adoration is an example of
how long it can take for realism to set in -- if ever.
