Freedom of Information and Democracy
I&R ~ GB Citizens' Initiative and Referendum
Campaign for direct democracy in Britain
http://www.iniref.org/

Democracy cannot "live" or function without free access to information.

With the latest "Restrict our information" amendment a majority of
Westminster MPs show contempt towards the people for whom they work.

With the stronger democracy which we advocate, the people could bring
creative proposals into the public arena and, relevant to the above
example, veto an unwanted law or decree. The latter can be achieved with
the "veto referendum", known in Switzerland as the facultative
(optional) referendum. Soon after a law passes Parliament, a veto
proposal may be activated if an agreed number of electors endorse it.
Then a referendum must be held.

The case for "Initiative and Referendum" is presented at our web site --
